Tancrède Perrot aka Tanc is a French artist born in 1979 in Paris.Tanc lives and works in Paris.
His work is characterized by the uniqueness of his style, which is better understood acknowledging Tanc grew up as a graffiti artist. He sees street art as ephemeral, and that the creative process matters more than the result itself. To him, being an artist means embracing a certain way of life: to be fully committed, and show absolute integrity.
TANC: I was born in 1979, I grew up surrounded by graffiti. That's what pushed me to realize it. Very quickly, by the singularity of my style. I became an important figure in French and international graffiti.I started making graffiti in 1996, it was already several years that I tried on paper and posed some tag .. It was when the Iraqi embassy (which was in my street at the time) was destroyed that I had a place to experiment with the paint spray and decided to dedicate my life to painting.
TANC: At the time, Paris was covered with graffiti. The public was in misunderstanding, the government in the repression. It was necessary to believe in being and in this art to continue. To be visionary.
TANC: For me, graffiti has always had the vocation of finishing in museums. It is the current in Art that joins modern art and contemporary art. Everything is there, the bottom and the form. These paintings have an immediate effect on the viewer as they tell stories. Sometimes by their figurative aspects, sometimes by what they represent, their intentions. For me the action and more important than the result. It is to my mind that the beginning of the process of reflection on the subject and its importance in the world of art today.
TANC: The philosophy of Chinese painting has influenced me a lot in recent years. In China, the work is less the expression of an individual genius than participation in the movement of the cosmos, this order that unites the earth, the sky and the man, the Dao. The same breath of life animates all beings, caught up in the dynamism of the incessant transformations (yi, 易) of which the Void (xu, 虚) is the place. It is understandable then that it is to seize this spiritual influx, this rhythm, that the painter must collaborate. Inspiration is that (rare) moment when fusion with Nature takes place; from then on, the brush goes with ease. No toil. Painting, say the Chinese, emanates from the intellect, the Xin (heart-intellect) In this sense, I leave a lot of room for my subconscious. I do not try to control my gesture but rather to understand what he has to appear.
TANC: Yes! A graffiti is ephemeral. It is the intention that does not count the realization! On a canvas, we must have more depth and technique that can go through time. This is for me two different artistic research but that can add and complement each other.
TANC: I am not a muralist and do not search the gigantic for the sole purpose of impressing.I continue my creation in the street through illegal tag and graffiti through my different travels. This allows me to keep a line on and these little adrenaline moments are so powerful ..
I started with graffiti and will always endorse this act.
TANC: Music is very little used in the art despite its chemical force, see mathematics. I mean, that the "bgm" can have repercussions on our physique. From the beat of foot on the measure to the nod of the head to a total trance! The melodies also have their importance but more on a psychological point. According to their sadness or cheerfulness. They change the mood!
They can also be an "ink" that will remind us of memories plunging us back into the state we were in when we first listened. All this makes her the most effective tool for communicating and immersing a viewer in a universe!
I am a painter, draftsman, graphic designer and composer of electronic music. I see silence as a blank page. Influenced by "drone" music I like a bass line to be present from the beginning to the end of a song. Then, I put different rhythm and melody like shapes and colors that I change and alternates by changing the frequency of my sounds.
I invite you on a journey closer to my emotions.
