Apocalypse of Eschatology
By Emerson Wang
The truth is only revealed under destructive power.
The new order is established on the collapse of the old one. Is this afable or destined history?
The two powers in the East and the West ushered in another centurial warstarting with a battle of trade. Each single move of either side is not thatsimple as it might seem to be. The international situation is poised tooverthrow economy, politics and society of different regions. Can we still sitback comfortably in our own tiny comfort zone, satisfied with ourselves?Industrial pollution and sinking airflow worked together to give birth to heavysmog over the city. People have turned their life into a greater chaos than ithas ever been.

Yuval Noah Harari, a world-renowned historian and thinker pointed out inhis book 21 Lessons for the 21st Centuryhis worries with fierce words and furious tones: "The misery of most humanbeings is no longer being exploited, but something even worse, that is, nothingmatters. … Human beings are faced with unprecedented changes, where all oldstories are falling apart, yet new stories are not taking their places. Be itourselves or our posterities, how should we be prepared for such unprecedentedchanges and extreme uncertainties?"
We are in need of a new aura of revelation to rediscover the savinggrace. The ancient Jewish and Christian prophets describe the future they sawin Revelation with vivid images and rich imaginations. The world has come to anend in the aftermath of man-made catastrophes and natural disasters. The heavenunveils people’s lies. The son of the god comes on the back of a white horseand defeats the evil. When secularismbecomes the faith of the 21st century, we must resort to humanism to redefinethe value of new era, otherwise we have no other choice than going to the end.
Despite that the five sculptors have their own propositions to theirworks, they all boil down to one purpose, which is to explore a situation, withwhich to deconstruct, reorganize or reshape people’s mind and to present it in tangibleworks.

Lu Zhengyuan challenges the fixed identity and style of art as if he ispursing the human faith and soul. This time he adopts new technologies andencourages participation of the audience to propose the complex yet obscure interpersonalrelationship; Zheng Lu, an artist with typical oriental humanistic thought, isgood at expressing in-depth thoughts with the three-dimensional presentation ofcalligraphy and paintings. In the days to come, he will do it just the otherway around by having the 3D object observed from a two-dimension perspective, highlightingdiversity by changing the original characteristics of the material; Xia Hangdeals with the relationship between people and machineries in the future era oftechnology. Metallic luster and sharp-cut surface set the tone of the sculpture, representing the madness of the human world; Yang Lan explores the essence oflife existence through religious images, and nothingness and doubt become inalienablefrom existence; Ren Zhe holds that the world needs a new power from peoplebefore the world can be changed. Mysterious fables appear in these works, envisagingnew possibilities of life.
And what's interesting is that when their works are placed side by sidein the same scene we've designed, it feels like a déjà vu in the MarvelCinematic Universe. In this seemingly real but fictional world, each characteris given special identities and tasks, looking for answers and redemption inthe chaos of the world.
