Job Description


Chronus Art Center's Research and Creation Lab (CAC_LAB) needs a reliable assistant to take care of some of the duties and needs required by the laboratory. The ideal candidate will have a “make” profile and should be capable of engaging with activities which imply some basic creative programming, prototyping and fabrication. He/She should be organized and open to the possibility of engaging with simple management tasks and emails as well as taking care of order and organization of the LAB's space, tools and other equipment.

  The projects produced by the residency artists in 2018.



Responsibilities and Duties

- Since <CAC_LAB> is a space which constantly hosts international artists, scholars and creative technologists, the job candidate should be able to engage in English based conversations. He/She has to be able to read and produce English written text, mainly for tasks involving emails, paperwork and communication in general. Hosting CAC’s Research and Creation Fellows and visiting artists working within the LAB space is the main task in this job.


- Assist the Head of Research and other resident artists with their creative research and/or practice. This requires some times programming assistance, while other times assistance with fabrication, sketching, prototyping, etc.


- Be open to and engaged with the learning environment which is <CAC_LAB>. This means that he/she needs to be constantly in a process of learning the different programming tools commonly used in the LAB by the Artists working there.


- Taking care of the LAB space, keeping it organized and functional at all times.


- Taking care of the tools, equipment and machines in the lab is a mayor responsibility, these include: laser cutter, 3D printer, bend-saw, sanders, press drills, VR equipment, Optitrack motion tracking system, computers, etc.



Required Skills

- English as a second language.


- Know one or more of the main creative programming environments (open Frameworks/ C++, Processing/ Java, HTML, javascript, python, arduino, etc.). It is fine if the job's candidate only knows one of the previously mentioned programming environments as long as he/she is skillful and able to quickly learn other tools.


- Knowledge about computers and operating systems.


- Basic digital fabrication skills is a plus, using laser cutter, 3d printer, etc.


- Basic management skills, communication and problem solving.
