金融时报(Financial Times)在2018年3月香港巴塞尔期间对喻红VR作品《她曾经来过》进行了报道:


“在‘策展角落’单元,喻红展出了她的VR作品《她曾经来过》,与此相呼应的是长征空间展位上正在展出的喻红油画作品个展。喻红最著名的作品便是描绘女性不同人生阶段的肖像系列,而在《她曾经来过》中,她用手绘的方式来营造一个VR的世界,反映了她个人的人生经历。她谈到:‘我所画的每一帧都是我的经历中有兴趣发掘的事物,比如从文化大革命、到明代家具、再到红山文化。’


从去年开始,喻红开始接触虚拟现实媒介作为创作方式,作品《她曾经来过》便是去年创作并在一个VR艺术展中展出。对于媒介的使用,她解释道:‘这个项目让我看到了绘画的局限,绘画其实是在模拟3D空间,而在VR中你可以真实地进入到这个空间。我希望观众可以通过进入这个VR环境来感受我所想传达的情感。’”

关于《她曾经来过》


进入喻红的《她曾经来过》虚拟现实体验中,将经历四个场景,追随一名女性角色的年华流转。当人物随着她的成长向前推移,围绕她的事与物则随时间向后退转。她的出生发生在现代医院,随后的场景带领主人公和观者进入远久的过去,直至时光倒流至所知的远古中国的历史起源。


每个场景都由艺术家手绘完成并被改编成虚拟现实,肉眼可见的笔触将充满活力的图层勾勒到虚拟现实世界中,在作品中创造出虚拟和现实事物的互换。喻红的绘画方法在描绘女性生活时表现出极强的个人风格,突出她日常生活中的每个细节,将置于历史背景中的事件和私密时刻相关联。转瞬即逝与无休无尽的一幕幕,在历史和作为个体的生命中作为融合的对立面,寻根究底的发展,重复和改变。

Financial Times has been reported She's Already Gone by Yu Hong during Art Basel Hong Kong 2018.


"In the Kabinett sector, Yu Hong is showing the VR work She's Already Gone alongside her oil paintings in a solo booth for Long March Space. Hong is best known for her portraits of women at different stages of life; for this piece, she reflects on her own journey, creating a series of hand-drawn drafts which were adapted for VR. 'Each scene I painted was something I'm interested in… [and something] from my experience: the Cultural Revolution… the Ming dynasty furniture… the Hong-shan culture,' she says.


She began working with the medium when she took part in a VR art exhibition last year, where she exhibition She's Already Gone. 'This project allowed me to see the limitations of painting,' she explains. 'Painting simulates three-dimensional space… yet in VR, you can really enter a space… I hope that by entering the VR environment, the audience can [feel] the emotions I wished to convey.'"

When entering Yu Hong's Virtual Reality experience, the viewers will witness four scenes, traveling through the life of a female character from her birth to her old age. As the character moves forward in her own development, the events around her flow backwards in time. Whereas her birth takes place in a modern hospital, the subsequent scenes take her and the viewer further and further back in time, until reaching a shamanistic ritual in the earliest known period in Chinese history.


Each scene is painted by the artist by hand and adapted into Virtual Reality, the visible brush strokes adding a layer of physicality to the virtual world and creating an exchange of virtual and real matter in the piece. Yu's method of painting is vastly personal in the portrayal of the woman, emphasizing the beauty in the details of her daily life, linking events in history to intimate moments. The fleeting and the perpetual act as two merging opposites, probing development, repetition and change in history and in the life of the individual.
