“在拍摄这件作品之前，我经常看电影电视里的古装片。在准备拍摄自己的古装片过程时，我的脑袋里常常出现一个问题，就是世界上本来就有那么多好的和不好的古装片，我为什么还要多拍一部呢？虽然当时没有答案，我还是觉得一定要拍。

在拍摄完成之后和后期的剪辑里，我得到了答案：我只是在做一件行为作品，用拍古装片的形式。行为作品是否真的可以跨越时间和空间的限制呢？在我这里答案是肯定的。”

“Before shooting this work, I often watched period costume dramas in movies and on TV. When I was in the process of preparing to shoot my own costume drama, a question kept popping up in my mind that there are already so many good or bad costume dramas in world – why did I want to shoot yet another one? Although I didn’t have an answer at the time, I still felt that I had to go through with it.

During editing, I got my answer that I was just doing a performance work in the form of costume drama. Can performance work truly overcome the constraints of space and time? Here, my answer is: certainly.”

艺术家简介

胡向前，1983年出生于广东雷州，2007年毕业于广州美术学院油画系第五工作室，现生活、工作于北京和广州。胡向前是活跃在中国当代艺术界的青年行为艺术家，他创作的动机纯粹来自直觉的渴望，始终抱持着这样的理念：直白真实地去体验周遭才有可能找到不为认识的现实。

胡向前的创作形式可定义为以录像为载体的表演，他的作品灵感来自周围亲历的环境和他对于身体、表演艺术家和表演之间的关系的审思。凭借着对生活中矛盾荒谬的事物的高敏感度，他的作品娴熟地强调出了我们社会中的种种差异，并把一些微小的小事件放大成了社会能指（signifiers）。

Hu Xiangqian (b. 1983, Leizhou, China) graduated in 2007 from Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, and currently lives and works in Beijing and Guangzhou. Hu is an active young performance artist in China. His artworks are motivated from pure hunger to intuition. He is convinced that one can only get access to unknown reality if he directly engages with his life.

Hu’s artistic practice is grounded in performance and video works documented with an intentional amateurishness and crudeness. His inspirations and motivations arise from his immediate surroundings, his intuition, and his artistic contemplation of what it means to be an artist. His work highlights the contrasts in our society and amplifies minor incidents into major social signifiers.
