要：这个项目主要是在探讨声音吗？

姚：不完全是，此次项目声音是被作为一种动力来介入，来打开项目的，有点类似于酵母粉的作用，我其实更关注的是那个发酵的过程。

要：能否谈谈，为什么在空间内选择呈现了这样的四组表演，或者他们在空间内彼此是什么样的一种关系。

姚：四组表演放在一起主要是为了提供生态系统的丰富性，他们各自带有鲜明的色彩、气质、力量和视听对比。自然在行为过程中生产出多元化的产品语言，这些语言与空间将会形成一种有趣的塑造与被塑造的对话关系。

要：这次项目探讨的侧重点是在表演这里吗？

姚：表演只是被作为一个引子或者是过程存在。重点不是放在表演这里，表演更像是些日常行为一样无聊的行动。当然我是很确信把这些无聊放在展览空间内的有效性的。我所关注的是这些行为发生的过程和结果。这些过程甚至可以从我一开始思考这个项目算起，他们就已经启动了生产，而且是那种无休的生产。比如说在过程中获得的声音、图像、雕塑、影像、表演、装置、体验、质疑等多重我所认可的语言。这一切将会像一种动力一样把我和新的问题紧密联系在一起，进一步推动新的生产可能。

要：那么就意味着这样子的过程对你来说是最重要的对吗？

姚：是的。我认为我在过程中完成和体验了我所期待的一切，也消解了问题和我与艺术之间的代谢关系。

YELL: Is this project mainly exploring sound?

YAO: Not exactly. In this project, sound is a driving force to unfold the events. It is like yeast as a leavening agent in baking. I pay more attention to the fermentation process.

YELL: Can you tell us about why you decided to present four groups of performances in this exhibition? What kind of relationship they have with each other in the exhibition space?

YAO: The four groups of performances provide diversity to the ‘ecosystem’. Each of the performances carries its own color, temperament, strength, visual and sound. The interactions between these distinctive traits in four groups of performances create contrast, and naturally produce various languages during the production process. The production of new languages and space are in a relationship dialogue of shaping and reshaping each other.

YELL: Is performance your main focus for this project?

YAO: Performance itself is not my main focus here. It is more like an inducement or part of the production process. It resembles some repetitive and boring behaviors in everyday life. Having said that, I am certain about the efficacy of these boring behaviors prevail in the exhibition space. What I really concern about is the production process of these actions and the result they caused. Technically speaking, production has started when I conceived this project in my head. This is an endless task. Sounds, images, sculptures, videos, performances, installations, experiences and questions produced during the process have turned into new languages. These new languages will become the new driving force that connects me with new questions, allowing me to look into any new possibilities.

YELL: Is this production process important to you？

YAO: Yes. I have experienced what I expected during the production process. I have solved problems with uncertainty, as well as the metabolic relationship between me and art.

《有机生产》项目计划是涉猎了表演、行为、声音和剧场等形式的一个交互实验项目。姚海希望借以多个无聊的行为和表演来实现一种生产和交响。构成生产的各个演出部分相互没有直接的关联，而且不带有明确的指向性和叙事性，强调一种自然生成和发酵，它们更像是每个独立的无调乐章声部，各自演绎完成一种纯粹的生产文脉。

姚海意欲透过塑造这种无聊的生产系统来获得产品和新的生产动力。他将在一种不断演化的过程之中完成质疑和考证，体验一种尽可能纯粹的美学生成可能。

艺术家在展览空间内共安排了四组行为演出和与之相关的多项副产品（视频、声音、图像等）。四组表演同步发生，它们交合生成共鸣，其各个部分又独立生产声音、行为、表演、叙事、雕塑、图像和空间等议题的想象。在演出的同时，姚海在空间内叠加了自己创造的语言作为背景来统治现场，以一种魔幻幽默的手法介入，实现了对空间的有效变调和扩张。

“Organic Production” is an experimental project that comprises with performances, actions, sounds and theatre. Yao Hai attempts to carry out a production and generate interaction between sounds through different repetitive and boring actions in four groups of performances. These actions have no direct relationship towards each other nor any explicit orientation and narrative. Rather they emphasize a spontaneous development and agitation. Each group of performances generates its own sounds with the absence of tonality, to create and complete the pure context of production.

Yao Hai intends to acquire products and new production power through this boring production system. He continues to question and explore in an evolving process, and to experience the possibility of aesthetic generation in the most unadulterated way.

In the exhibition space, Yao Hai presents four groups of performances and several related by-products including videos, sounds and images. All the performances occur at the same time and influence each other to produce resonance, while each part of the performances and the by-products independently produce different subjects for imagination. These subjects include sound, action, performance, narrative, sculpture, image and space. During the performance, Yao Hai superimposes his own languages in the exhibition space as a background to dominate the scene, with a magical and humorous approach to intervene and to effectively achieve modulation and expansion of the space.

艺术家简介

姚海, 1980年出生于中国甘肃，于2009年和2014年移居香港及纽约，现于上海工作及居住。姚海的创作方向涉及装置、雕塑、绘画、录像、表演、声音和摄影等表现形式。

曾在香港世界画廊（「姚海」， 2018 年）、香港医学博物馆（「花明处解构 · 矛盾中缝合」，2018 年）、上海五五画廊（「图像中探险」，2018 年；「0 + 1 + 十二」，2017年）、武汉合美术馆（「解构的游戏」，2017 年）和中国武汉K11艺术村（「界外」，2016 年）举办个展。作品曾在台北国际艺术村、香港视觉艺术中心、韩国CICA美术馆、美国纽约皇后美术馆、美国纽约威廉斯堡艺术与历史中心等地展出。

Yao Hai was born in Gansu, China in 1980. He relocated to Hong Kong in 2009 and New York in 2014. Currently lives and works in Shanghai. Yao’s practice spans across installation, photography, sculpture, painting, video, performance and sound. He has held solo exhibitions at Hong Kong Galerie du Monde (“Yao Hai”, 2018), Hong Kong Museum of Medical Sciences (“Reconstruction of Deconstruction”, 2018), Shanghai Gallery 55, (“Adventure in Graphics”, 2018 and “zero + one + twelve”, 2017), Wuhan United Art Museum (“Free Play of Deconstruction”, 2017) and Wuhan K11 art village (“Beyond Boundaries”, 2016). His works have been exhibited in many international institutions including the Taipei Artist Village in Taiwan, the CICA Museum in South Korea, the Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre, the Queens Museum and the Williamsburg Art & Historical Centre in New York.

FAS是2017年底由要空间和艺术家们共同发起的实验艺术项目。FAS来源于“发生、发散、发声、发射”等汉语拼音的前三个字母，同时包含 “Fast, fascinate, fasten, free art space” 等英文语意。

FAS项目，如同其名称所示的开放性与鲜活度——正在与年轻，最具活力和实验性的艺术家合作，共同构筑当下艺术生态。我们希望以要空间作为主要的展示平台，提供给全国乃至世界各地的青年艺术家们更多的探索、实验和交流机会。

About FAS

FAS is an experimental art project initiated by YELL Space and artists. FAS is from the first three letters from the Chinese words “fasheng (happening),fasan (spreading), fasheng (voicing), fashe (transmitting),” and also Englishmeanings of “Fast, fascinate, fasten, and free art space”.

FAS is the collaboration between the most energetic and experimental youngartists while building the present ecology of the art-world together.We hope that Yell space will become a main platform to provide moreopportunities of exploration、experiment and communicationfor young artists from all over the country even aroundthe world.

"Yell Space" is a non-profit art space which is established in Shanghai M50. It aims to create an independent, liberal an open platform for the artists that the purpose of creating the third party. "Yell Space" has always been in actively engaged in the changes of contemporary art filed with a keen observation. We are hoping to provide a place which artists could communicate ideas and share artworks together.
