My working process over the last three weeks, has involved keeping a daily photographic diary of all the interesting and unexpected aspects of everyday life, which I see as I travel around the city. I have a special focus on architecture and features of buildings all over Beijing - from cultural monuments to our local housing estate - but I collect images widely and edit them for interesting motifs in the studio. This collection of elements will be developed into further drawing and collage studies for our Open Studio in June.
在北京这个月，我把在这座城市旅行生活中有趣的事物抓取成图片形式的日记做为创作过程。特别是北京的建筑，从文化遗迹到民居，我都会拍下来。之后我在工作室编辑图片，然后在此基础上进行绘画创作。在六月的工作室开放活动，这些作品会和大家见面。

As a devising artist, Ellen creates theatre that is research driven, intricate observation of the peculiarities of the world around us, and always seeks to have the audience at its centre. In her first month in residency Ellen is exploring different modes of collaborative performance practise through out Beijing as research for the creation of across-cultural theatre work, Digging a Hole to China.
做为一个创造型艺术家，促使Ellen创作的灵感来自于她对周遭世界错综复杂之特性的观察与研究，试图寻找观众们的核心视点。在第一个月，她试图以研究戏剧与文化跨界为立足点，在北京发现一些合作与创作的可能，以此来进入中国这个圈子。

For Gaby Steiner photography is a research tool for space production that can go beyond documenting places. The interplay between the meaning of the visible space and the simultaneous isolation of the image uncovers different layers of representation of reality and power structures. It serves as research into the relations between the human and the environment. Images are constitutive and integral components of a visual and verbal context.

My topics fundamentally investigate space theory, space sociology, visual urban loneliness and examines shifting perspectives on relationships between public and private space mirrored within the realm of personal experience. While the notion of public space is rooted in cultural and historical context, it has evolved to take on new forms consistent with modern global metropolis. The way people use and value places is highly influenced by their perception of space. In this case it is a unique planning development with specifically Chinese characteristics, which faces circumstances of significant increasing urban issues. Social, economical and environmental processes are changing our world and create new spaces of the inbetween, called interspaces.

对于Gaby来说，摄影作品是一种对空间研究的幕后记录工具。相互的关系是在多层面和结构上揭示可视空间与同步且单一的画面的意义。它作用于研究人类与环境的关系。画面的结构成分形成视觉效果和语境。让艺术家孤独的视角着眼于城市中公共空间与私人空间的镜像体验。当源于文化和历史背景的公共空间，逐步与全球化大都市概念统一，人们对空间价值的使用方式将影响他们对空间的认知。这是非常有中国特色的一种中间层面的有关经济与环境的画面现象。

Marit’s work focuses on the concept of preserving vernacular building in China and its significance to the construction of cultural identity. In her sculpture and installation pieces she explores the relations between the formal potential inherent in industrially refined matters: their drive for self-organization that can lead to organic, nature-like objects and their everyday use in architecture, that is, formdetermined by an imposed geometry.
Marit的创作着眼于保护中国传统建筑的概念及维护其文化符号。建筑中空间的结构和其材料的使用是她艺术创作所涉及的核心内容。在她的雕塑和装置作品中，她探索着“与生俱来的天赋”与“标准化工业中的事物“之关系：以上两者的自行推动力，指向有机和天然的材料，并使其与每天生活的建筑所结合，这可谓是一种固有的几何公式。
