On May 25, 2019, HOW Art Museum held a contemporary dance performance “BINARY” and workshop “iDance 6 senses”. The event was inspired by Italian multimedia artist, Quayola, and his solo exhibition, "Asymmetric Archaeology: Gazing machines".This interactive performance was an attempt to understand the meaning of artificial and real in human relationship.
Contemporary dance performance 《Binary》
The borders between the real and the artificial are blurred in the 21st Century. We all are seeking for a perfect object of love, sculpted from the expectations and desires of our subconscious; its image is often vague, bordering nothingness, and its portrayal distincts from our current reality.

With the inception of image based apps, we are constantly asked to choose between our likes and dislikes through double tapping or quick swiping to the left. This world operates on a two-digit dating system - a binary choice.
How do you communicate with eye contact?
Try to talk through your eyes, feeling the connection between the "sculptors" and the "sculptures."
Regarding this dance performance,
the artists also expressed a creation sentiment:
Julie S: “I am interested in going very deep into practice no matter what I do. I believe in creating of high-level energy between us, Yin and Yang, and share this elegant sensuality with the others. The energy is not something abstract. It is a real cause-and-effect relationship between objects, feelings and thoughts in terms of space and time. During the creation process I was seeking vulnerable moments to reveal essential things in body and mind. Can you imagine how much you can feel just from looking into each other's eyes for 40 minutes? It was the most intimate part for me because I couldn’t hide anywhere. I found great pleasure in this insecurity. The story came from inside the body. The story of exploration of different dimensions of sensual perception by both real touch and imagination.”

Jared Mimm :"The process of creating the performance was an intimate journey of trying to find what felt special between two people who were working together for the first time. Various warm up exercises were used to expand possible movement vocabulary and gestures but the most important factor was simply creating memories of the energy created between us. During the performance, the best moments were when there was less concentration on following any predetermined structure to show the audience. Finding our way to each other despite there being a performance in front of people is was where the heart of the performance shined through."
Workshop “iDance 6 senses” by JULIE S
During the workshop, the participants, led by Julie S, explored the six senses – sight, hearing, smell, taste, touch, and proprioception – using sensory reactions and stimulus to create a dance.

Trust your instincts and your mind, the spirit and body are directing them. Use your limitless imaginations to connect all these concepts, ideas, and subjects, converting them into your body movement.
Close your eyes, leave your body to space, and tell yourself a bit more quietly where to go next.

Connect with your peers through touch and body language, completing a performance together in a summer garden.
