It is CAC's first educational project devoted to youth and playful education in the digital era.
The workshop will introduce and explore speculative design, aimed at imagining and depicting positive potential future worlds, and teaching rapid prototyping as means for communicating ideas in a clear, tangible and rich way.
Playful and engaging learning
The goal of this exercise is to encourage the participants to gaze into the future, whilst simultaneously learning to package and communicate ideas in a tangible and comprehensive way. The participants will be invited to imagine, formulate, prototype, finalize and present artifacts from the futures they create, based on a playful and engaging brief. The outputs will be presented and voted on by the participants, based on usefulness, plausibility, creativeness, appearance, and presentation quality.
14:00-14:30 Introduction and case study
Slide deck exploring 3 creative future-oriented projects and how they went from conceptual stages to finalised outcomes.
14:40-15:00 Working on the brief
Creative writing exercise during which participants will join groups to create artefacts from the future. This will involve determining the purpose and functionality of the object, the year of production, and the target audience.
Teams will be asked physically prototype ideas by using provided tools such as craft materials, playful everyday objects to be disassembled or repurposed, pre-fabricated electronics such as screens, speakers, and buttons.
16:30-17:00 Finalising and presenting
The objects will be staged, named, attributed a price, photographed and presented. We will vote on the best, quirkiest, and most plausible artefacts and discuss how these could contribute to desirable future worlds.
