洪凌是我国当代著名油画家，中国美术家协会会员，曾任中央美术学油画系第三工作室教授。作为一个中国绘画与西方绘画兼而习之的画家，洪凌可谓当代画坛中最能代表中国山水精神的艺术家，在中国当代艺术史上占据无法撼动的地位。他所开创的用西方油画技法来展示东方山水意境一直都是艺术界瞩目的话题，其作品更是被顶级藏家追捧，一画难求。

洪凌每一天始终在挑战自我，并在过去的几十年里创造过无数辉煌。从早期代表中国艺术家受邀参展威尼斯双年展(1997 Venice Biennale & 2011 Venice Biennale)殊荣，2015年更与索卡共同创下华人艺术的第一，举办两年的个人世界巡回展，分别巡回至英国与爱尔兰等重要研究东方艺术学术机构。2017年作品《四季交响》(Four Seasons Symphony)荣获中国国家大剧院的永久收藏。

华丽转身

上个世纪八九十年代美术界西潮涌动，中国人画画首先强调技术，洪凌也在这样的思潮里寻找自己，希望自己的东西足够新，能跟得上时代的巨浪。那个时期洪凌也尝试过抽象，但不超过一年，他就发现这可能并不适合他。“被裹挟在这个大潮里走，这不是我想要的东西”洪凌说。

在九〇年代初期，洪凌一个华丽转身，将工作室设于黄山脚下的屯溪，经年以山水为邻，以自然为师，潜心将天地山川的大美心领神会后，转化于笔下的山水风景创作，并致力将中国传统水墨自宋代所着重的气韵、写意精神延续到西画的表现。

洪凌之所以决定长期潜伏在山水之中，这不仅仅是因为生性喜欢清净，想在山水中逃避喧嚣，更主要的还是基于他在艺术上的深思远虑——他转身自然的时候，能明显地发掘自己的心性，能够从这样的生活里汲取到不竭的灵感，这些支持着他十多年来的创作。

气象万千

气象是中国美学最高层次的范畴，是气韵与意象的综合。洪凌创作的山水意象风格独具，将绘画视角重新透视与解构自然样貌，使用油彩泼点再搭配水墨皴法，大小、缓急或是涂抹，将自然中的山林风情保有着东方独有留白与气韵表现，奠定他在其当代艺术史中无可撼动的地位。

他的作品中常常是涂有薄薄的蓝灰色底，间以飞白和不拘手法形式的不同色调的色斑，看似有形象，但这形象并不是对自然的把握，而是对自然悟后的抒发。不是为了表现具体的景色，而是充分体现了“圣人含道暎物，贤者澄怀味像。至于山水，质有而趣霛。”换成当代的语言，就是：艺术要想达到艺术的升华，必须先做到内在对外在不含成见，没有囿见的、完全敞开式的心态才能够达到。

不辩中西

洪凌的作品非常当代，但其中精髓又源自中国深厚的山水文化，从山水和古人画笔的魂魄中提炼出“天人合一”的宇宙观及“生生不息”的生命观。但这绝不能简单划于民族主义，或是中国式油画山水。

“我上次世界巡回到英国的时候，其实很多英国人你都不用跟他解释，他都能明白，都懂（我在画什么，我想表达什么）。实际是你已经（用作品）与他们沟通过了，这个里面不强调东方西方。你把东方最好的东西浸到骨髓里，把它真正地代入到油画语言里，这就是世界的。”

洪凌是个旅行家，他走过世界的很多角落，把世界的自然加到作品中。他的目光所及并不仅仅是黄山，而是带着中国人的方式观察世界，从中得到的能量也并不属于他一人，而属于世界。一旦一个艺术家真正走入自然中，他的作品就会不中不西，且真正找到自己的语言。

山水是中华文化精神的核心象征，先贤已经将山水文化做到极致，但在新时代下，洪凌认为我们应启动中国山水精神，让作品不辩你我，不辩中西，将中西精髓无缝对接。

步履不停

今天这个时代很多人都在“逃避”自然，只有洪凌扑在里面二十多年，这也是一种强烈的文化自信。洪凌在艺术道路上的摸索从未停止，无论是以中国的山水观赏析世界人文美景，还是艺术语言的不断探索和更新，他在中国当代艺术上是独一无二的存在。

Hong Lingis a famous contemporary oil painter in China, a member of the Chinese Artists Association, and a former professor of the third studio of the Central Fine Arts Oil Painting Department. As a painter who combines Chinese painting with Western painting, Hong Ling is the one who can best represent the spirit of Chinese landscape in contemporary painting. Thus, he has an unshakable position in the history of Chinese contemporary art. Hong Ling uses Western oil painting techniques to show the artistic conception of the East, which has always been a topic of great interest in the art world. Thus, his works are sought after by top collectors.

Hong Ling has always challenged himself and has created countless glories in the past few decades. In the early days, he were invited to participate in the 1997 and 2011 Venice Biennale, representing Chinese artists. In 2015, Hong Ling and Soka Art jointly held a two-year personal world tour through China, the UK and Ireland, which are important places of oriental art research, creating a record in Chinese art. In 2017, Hong Ling was commissioned by the National Center for the Performing Arts to create the work "Four Seasons Symphony", which later was permanently collected by it.

A Gorgeous Turning Back

In the 1980s and 1990s, the tide of western art world surged and most Chinese paintings emphasized technology in the first place. Hong Ling also searched for himself in such a trend of thought, hoping that his own things were new enough to keep up with the waves of the times. At that time, Hong Ling also tried abstraction, but he found that this may not suit him no more than one year. "Being wrapped in this tide, this is not what I want" Hong Ling said.

In the early 1990s, Hong Ling made a gorgeous turn and set up the studio in Tunxi, at the foot of Huangshan Mountain. After years, he was surrounded by mountains and rivers, taking nature as a teacher. He devoted himself to the beauty of Shanshui and transformed them into landscapes, striving to extend the traditional Chinese ink painting from the Song Dynasty to the Western performance painting.

The reason why Hong Ling decided to lurk in the mountains and rivers for a long time is not only because he likes to be pure or wants to escape from the hurly. The more important thing is based on his deep thinking of art. When he turns to nature, he can clearly face his own heart and draw inexhaustible inspiration from such life, which supports his creation for more than ten years.

Majestic and Changing Atmosphere

Qi Xiang(气象) is the highest level of Chinese aesthetics, and it is a combination of panache and imagery. Of course, the landscape imagery created by Hong Ling is unique. The perspective of the painting is re-exposed and deconstructed. The oil color is used to match the ink and wrinkle method. The size, urgency or smear will preserve the natural mountain scenery and have the unique oriental white space. All of these lay his unassailable position in the history of contemporary art.

A thin blue-grey base is often occured in Hong Ling's works. With different shades of white and different forms of colors, it seems to have an image. However, this image is not a grasp of nature, but the realization of it. Hong Ling doesn't intend to express the specific scenery, but to fully embody the saying "If art wants to achieve the sublimation, it must first be achieved internally with a completely open mind, without prejudice, without a glimpse".

Not Telling the East from the West

Hong Ling's works are very contemporary, but the essence of it comes from Chinese profound landscape culture. He extracts the ideology of that "men is an integral part of nature" and "prosperous life" from the soul of the landscape and the ancient brush. However, we can never say that Hong Ling's art is nationalism or Chinese-style oil painting landscapes.

"When I was on the world tour to the United Kingdom last time, in fact, many British people can understand (what I am painting and what I want to express). Actually you have already communicated with them (through art works). At this moment, you don't have to emphasize the East and the West. You just dipped the best things in the East into the marrow and truly substituted it into the language of oil painting. This is what we called worldwide, we are all."

Hong Ling is a traveller. He has walked through many corners of the world and added the nature of the world to his works. His eyes are not just about Huangshan, but the way of watching the world with Chinese traditional aesthetics. The energy that comes from it does not only belong to him, but to the world. Once an artist truly enters nature, he or she will truly find his own language.

The landscape (Shanshui) is the core symbol of the Chinese cultural spirit. The sages have made the landscape culture to its ultimate. Whereas in the new era, Hong Ling believes that we should start the Chinese landscape spirit again. True art is not about you and me, or about the East and the West, but to bring the essence of both seamlessly.

Never stop exploring

Nowadays, many people are "escaping" from nature, only Hong Ling has been in it for more than 20 years. This is a symbol of strong culture confidence. Hong Ling’s exploration of art never stopped and never will. Whether it is the beauty of the world’s landscapes or the continuous exploration and renewal of artistic language, he is one of a kind in Chinese contemporary art.
