徐震?将于2019年3月7日参加于沙迦各地举办的第14届沙迦双年展，展出作品《饥饿的苏丹》（2008）。

第14届沙迦双年展的3位策展人将推出“一系列探讨个体该如何重新思考当代生活‘回音室’的形成、形式及其功能的项目”，双年展将在沙迦多个场所进行。越南工厂当代艺术中心（The Factory Contemporary Arts Centre）艺术总监毕周轶（Zoe Butt）将组织一个题为“箭上之旅”（Journey Beyond the Arrow）的展览, 主要聚焦来自南半球艺术家的创作。《饥饿的苏丹》也将在此单元展出。

《饥饿的苏丹》是1994年普利策 (Pulitzer Prize) 摄影奖的获奖作品，作者卡文·卡特（Kevin Carter）在获奖后不久自杀。徐震的作品《饥饿的苏丹》用真实元素还原了照片中的环境，并制作了真实的秃鹰模型。雇佣了一个年龄和形象相似的非洲小孩摆放在现场。表演持续了21天，人们以卡文·卡特的视角重新体验照片中的情景。艺术家从这个作品所引出的提问远远超越了简单的人类道德评判话语，也远非简单的图像学研究系统所能概括。真正需要追究的是，人们为什么要以利用视觉来建构和在适当的时间里重构其权力经验作借口？艺术家以再现的方式质疑了重构的目的——包括质疑自己的这件作品本身。

The original Starving of Sudan is a photograph that won the Pulitzer Prize in 1994. Its author, Kevin Carter, committed suicide shortly after being awarded the prize. The artwork Starving of Sudan by Xu Zhen re-enacts the instant immortalized by Carter’s photograph. In Xu’s work, which was initially staged as an installation/performance, the main protagonists are a young child and an animatronic vulture. The issues the artist engages within this work extend far further than those of morality or ethics, as well as reaching beyond the boundaries of traditional semiotics. The real question being asked is why people use visuality as a means to construct – and at certain times as an excuse to reconstruct – their experiences of power. Through this recreation of the original scenario, the artist questions the objectives in reconstruction, including those that prompted the work itself.

徐震的艺术一直在考验道德预设和人类极限，然而，通过这样的工作，他极富争议性地挑战并暗示他自己的艺术职业可能是场闹剧。具有讽刺意味的是，将其从纯粹的景观中拯救出来的，是他从观者身上逼迫出的主体，甚至是他自己面对的主体。通过操纵他可以使用的艺术平台，或者寻求与他置身的知识视觉系统（因此在呈现中拥有自己的解释权）的某种和解。他暗暗地在每个人的脑海中埋下一个问题——当代艺术的意义，以及它激发我们对被动参与世界性蔓延疾病的理解能力。（文/毕周轶）

Xu Zhen’s art has always tested ideas of ethical assumption and human limits, however with this particular work he controversially challenges and implicates his own artistic profession as possible farce. What, quite ironically, saves it from pure spectacle are the subjects he forces his viewers, and indeed himself, to confront. By manipulating the platform of art at his disposal, perhaps seeking some kind of reconciliation with his own involvement in a visual system of knowledge (and thus with its own rubric of power in its representation), he surreptitiously plants a question in everyone’s mind of the meaning of contemporary art, and its ability to provoke our own understanding of passive participation in the world’s chronic illnesses. (by Zoe Butt）

徐震出生于1977年，现工作生活于中国上海。1998年作为联合发起人创办了上海第一家独立的非营利艺术机构比翼艺术中心，同年，他与一群艺术家开始了创作与集体策展的生涯。徐震的创作十分一向非常广泛，包括装置、摄影、绘画和行为等种种艺术形式。2001年，徐震以有史以来最年轻的中国艺术家身份参加了2001年第49届威尼斯双年展主题展的展出，并于2004年获得中国当代艺术奖（CCAA）“最佳艺术家”奖项。2006年，他作为创办人之一推出了网络艺术社区Art-Ba-Ba（www.art-ba-ba.com），至今仍还是中国最活跃的探讨当代艺术讨论社区的平台。 除艺术家身份之外，他同时作为公司创始人运营着一家当代艺术创作型公司没顶公司（MadeIn Company），以生产艺术创造力为核心，致力于探索当代文化的无限可能。2013年，没顶公司推出徐震?，专注于艺术品创作和新文化研发。2016年11月，首家“徐震专卖店”于上海开业，徐震?由此进入全新的发展阶段。徐震?的作品在世界各地的博物馆和双年展中均有呈现，包括里昂双年展（2013）、纽约军械库展览（2014）、上海龙美术馆（2015）、卡塔尔Al Riwaq艺术中心（2016）、悉尼双年展（2016）、纽约古根海姆美术馆（2017）等。
