? ANSEL ADAMS, Moonrise (New Mexico), 1941. Courtesy of Cipa Gallery (Beijing)
? GAO YAN, Festival Hall No. 1 Limoges, 2007. Courtesy of Cipa Gallery (Beijing)
? HIROSHI SUGIMOTO, Lightning Fields, 2009. Courtesy of Cipa Gallery (Beijing)
? JULIE BLACKMON, Airstream, 2011. Courtesy of Cipa Gallery (Beijing)
? LIU BODA, TUTTI BUONI NO.4, 2015. Courtesy of Cipa Gallery (Beijing)
? SHEN LINGHAO, Spare Object Image 09, 2013. Courtesy of Cipa Gallery (Beijing)
? ZONG NING, Nanjing Road, 2009. Courtesy of Cipa Gallery (Beijing)
Cipa Gallery was formally established in 2014 at the Caochangdi Art District, Beijing, China. It was founded by the collector Mr. Charles Jin. The gallery covers an area of more than 600m2. Cipa is committed to focusing on images, exploring the transformation between images and other media, and exploring, supporting and promoting creative and innovative contemporary artists. At the same time, the gallery continues to collect and pay attention to the world's important photography works, and build an international platform for the exchange of photography.
2018 PHOTOFAIRS | Shanghai, Cipa Gallery will present artworks from artists Ansel Adams, Gao Yan, Hiroshi Sugimoto, Julie Blackmon, Liu Boda, Shen Linghao and Zong Ning.
Ansel Adams (born 1902 in San Francisco and died in 1984) is an American photographer. Adams has been a cover figure in TIME, and is the leading actor in five episodes of photography, "photography, a great art", a symbol of the environmental protection of the United States. His photo books have been printed in millions, and they can be bought in supermarkets in the US.
Adams's life was three degrees by the Guggenheim prize. In 1966, he won the prize of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. In 1980, Jimmy and Carter awarded him the Presidential Medal of freedom, which is the highest praise given by the state to the citizens of the United States.Adams as a photographer, has published fifteen books in twenty years from 1960 to 1979, such as the technological innovation Trilogy "camera", "film" and "print".
? ANSEL ADAMS, Moon and Half Dome, 1960. Courtesy of Cipa Gallery (Beijing)
Artwork Introduction: "Moon and Half Dome" and "Moon Rise" were Adams' favorite two moon-relating images. Adams is very experienced in shooting the moon. He can accurately measure the brightness of the moon and predict the shooting by the principle of regional exposure. The moon in his photo is always rich in details, unlike a white silhouette shot by an others. In addition, in the processing of black, white and gray relations, there are obvious three gray-scale relationships, namely the foreground and the shadow of the medium scene, the cliff of the medium scene and the gray sky. It is obvious that the half of the mountain wall in the foreground shadow is almost dead black. This is because Adams had to give up the hierarchical relationship of the part in order to preserve the details of the moon, the effective tone range that black and white film can record is very limited.
Gao Yan (born 1980 in Hebei Province) is a photographer currently teaches in the Department of Photography in Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts. In 2008, Gao finished the Postgraduate Programme of école nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Lyon. Since 2008, his photographs have been exhibited in Centre Photographique d'Ile-de-France, Musée d'art contemporain de Lyon, Power Station of Art in Shanghai, Art Museum of Nanjing University of the Art, ORGANHAUS in Chongqing, Xi'an Art Museum, Creative Union Hiroshima, and etcetera.
? GAO YAN, Festival Hall No. 2 Limoges, 2007. Courtesy of Cipa Gallery (Beijing)
Artwork Introduction: In the photography of artists Gao Yan, he has always been interested in the observation of space order and objects. He regards space as "the stage after the actor is missing", and things are like props on the stage. The observation of the architectural features, functionality, and interior decoration style of space will be involuntary to imagine the group characteristics associated with it and the ideology contained within it. His "sandwich" series took some private and public spaces that looked uncomfortable but deliberately arranged or decorated. Most of these spaces are temporary reception offices established by French folk organizations for the reception of illegal immigrants. The order of indoor daily items reveals the state of temporary reception, residence and ready to leave. The question of In Ttansit is also an interpretation of Gao Yan's cross boundary life and identity in the context of globalization. It is like he said, "a space between the end and the beginning, a period of suspension, a critical state of the new and old replacement, not here, on the other, above the territory."
Hiroshi Sugimoto (born in Tokyo) received the art education of Western oil painting. He studied in the United States and later became a famous photographer and artist. He is known as "the last modernist".
His creation brought the eastern and western historiography, philosophy and aesthetics into photography, which greatly enhanced the significance of photography and promoted the photographic works to the level of art. In addition to photography, he also handled the interior design and construction work, Noh theater shrine.
? HIROSHI SUGIMOTO, Trylon, New York, 1977. Courtesy of Cipa Gallery (Beijing)
Artwork Introduction: "Lighting Fields" is the artwork Hiroshi Sugimoto created in darkroom. He placed an electrode in a display basin filled with liquid medicine, exposed the unexposed large negatives to the electrode plate, and kept the spark on the film in a flash of electricity. “Theaters" is a collector's favorite collection. "Theaters” is the theaters in the record movie screen series, in the record a film after the screening, negative in long exposure, make the screen into a piece of white, the whole movie seem to be compressed into a symbol, a kind of zen, in "empty with nothing" art, people, his love of the creative process, rather than the final work.
Julie Blackmon (born 1966 in Springfield, Missouri) is a photographer who lives and works in Missouri. Blackmon's photographs are inspired by her experience of growing up in a large family, her current role as both mother and photographer, and the timelessness of family dynamics. As the oldest of nine children and mother to three, Blackmon uses her own family members and household to move beyond the documentary to explore the fantastic elements of our everyday lives.

Artwork Introduction: "Homegrown" series will be presented at the Fair. The series was inspired by Dutch artist Jan Steen, audience could find the work full of rowdy children and boisterous family gatherings. These images are both fictional and auto-biographical, and reflect not only our lives today and as children growing up in a large family, but also move beyond the documentary to explore the fantastic elements of our everyday lives, both imagined and real.
Liu Boda (born 1988 in Beijing) is an artist from the Oil Painting Department of Sichuan Fine Arts Institute with a bachelor's degree in 2011. He graduated from the Print Department of China Central Academy of Fine Arts with a master's degree in 2015.
? LIU BODA, TUTTI BUONI NO.3, 2015. Courtesy of Cipa Gallery (Beijing)
Artwork Introduction: The group of works TUTTI BUONI based on the artist's understanding of the “crystal clear water feeds no fish” and a kind of unfussy pop-ism survival attitude. It contains a metaphor that describe the relationship between people and the urban space. As the symbol of the theme, the suckermouth catfishes is the author's first description and imagination of environment and order.
Shen Linghao graduated from the Oil painting department of Shanghai Institute of Visual Arts (BFA), Studio art department of San Francisco Art Institute (MFA). Since 2011, his artistic practice has been focused on exploring the relationships between time, memories and urban transformations. He used lots of luminescent materials to provoke the retrospection of time and the transience of memory.

Zong Ning (born in 1984) grew up both on grassland and in new industry city. In the movement of the Support Border Areas, his father, together with the family, moved to Wulagai, and later to Wuhai. Like the most of kids that time, Zong Ning had a childhood life of austerity yet not lack of good moments and simple happiness. He went to Beijing from a small township in 2001, and lived in basement for a long time. He had been student of fine arts college, teacher of painting class, private tutor, creator of a website, hand of commercial painting, and assistant of artists - livelihood being his primary concern. In those days, artistic creation was for him a meaningless consumption: it was too abundant in resources to be resigned to its own dying; yet to live, it had to resort to a medley of irrelevant methods. At the back of that iron gate of reality, the happiness of childhood was no more.
? ZONG NING, Jie, 2009. Courtesy of Cipa Gallery (Beijing)
Artwork Introduction: The artist did the work like PS synthesis in the real space: draw the background on the wall of the studio, shoot with the model or the object, and apply it to the next creation after the end. Talking about what his works represent -- world view, life reality as well as imagination, the three are squeezed together unidentified.
