
Feminism is one of the most discussed subjects in art and media, but is this subject equally covered in different societies? Come listen to four panelists talk about their experiences bringing feminism into art and journalism in China, Japan, Australia and the Caribbean Islands. Panelists will also present examples of their work.

Kate Just is an established artist who works with sculpture, installation, neon, textiles and photography to produce contemporary art works that promote feminist representations of the body and experience. She often works socially and collaboratively within the community to create large scale, public projects that tackle significant social issues including sexual harassment and violence against women. In addition to her exhibition and projects in USA, Australia, Austria, India and Netherlands, she has recently organized an exhibition including prominent Japanese feminist artists in Tokyo. She is a current resident at Red Gate Residency.

Li Xinmo works, based on a variety of media, including performance, painting, video, photography and installations, have been exhibited in Toronto Photo Biennial, Prague Art Biennial, National Museums of World Culture in Sweden, Female Museum in Germany. Many other art museums and galleries in France, Italy, America, Canada and Columbia have exhibited and collected her works.
Joanna Chiu is China and Mongolia correspondent for Agence France-Presse (AFP). She reports on politics, civil society, human rights, the environment, the status of women and legal affairs. She is the founder of WAM!(Women, Action, Media!) Vancouver and the chair of the China-focused women’swriters’ and artists’ collective, NüVoices, which is preparing to publish ananthology.
Annabel Gueredrat is a choreographer and dancer from Martinique, who works on performances which are centered around the feminist movement in Caribbean Islands and the use of a female body. She is a current resident at Red Gate Residency.
The panel will be moderated by Rachel Mararjee, director of the Economist Corporate Network and former journalist.
