5月13日，MoCA将邀请上海“我们爱演戏”剧团带来《白象似的群山》剧本朗读。《白象似的群山》是海明威于1927年创作的短篇小说，故事设置在西班牙北部的一个车站，由两位旅人的对话展开，围绕着女主人公怀孕所带来的艰难抉择和由此产生的戏剧冲突。“我们爱演戏”剧团通过两组演员再现旅人的一席对话，意图在戏剧舞台上呈现出对同一文本的不同解读。《白象似的群山》原著约1445字，中译本约3500字，是海明威短篇中“冰山理论”的绝佳范本，作者对两位主人公的身份、关系，故事的起因、结局均未给出明确的阐释，火车到来之后，男女主人公的命运将何去何从？毕业于加利福尼亚大学洛杉矶分校（UCLA）的青年艺术家、诗人Neha Vasudeva将为故事之后的走向带来个人展演及诗作分享。随后，青年剧评人彭慧也将就海明威的“冰山理论”，“零度结尾”，“迷惘的一代、垮掉的一代，愤怒的一代”等议题与观众进行探讨。

“We Love Acting”, the amateur drama troupe in Shanghai, is invited to hold a script reading on May 13 in MoCA. The script is adapted from Hills Like White Elephants by Ernest Hemingway. The story focuses on a conversation between an American man and a girl at a Spanish train station while waiting for a train to Madrid. The pair discusses an operation that the man wants the girl to have, which is implied to be an abortion. Two actors from “We Love Acting” will perform the dialogue with two different interpretations. Hills Like White Elephants is a prime example of Hemingway’s iceberg principle, a type of storytelling in which the author intentionally includes only the bare essentials, leaving much of the details for the reader to infer. Since Hemingway leaves the story open-ended, in this performance Neha Vasudeva, a young artist and poet from UCLA, will develop the story after train arrives with a solo performance and poetry. A young drama critic, Hui Peng, will share her ideas with audiences about Hemingway’s “Iceberg principle”, “Degree zero ending” and “Lost generation, Beat generation and Rage generation”.

Neha Vasudeva is a poet, of both spoken-word and written work. She graduated with departmental honors from the Department of Global Studies at UCLA. She is especially passionate about sexual health education, and also finding cozy cafes to write stories and poetry in. Neha is participating in the UCLA Shanghai Arts Fellowship and working in the Events and Programming Department at the Shanghai Museum of Contemporary Art.

Graduated from Department of Theory of Theater at University of Lisbon (UL), Hui completed her master’s degree with departmental honors by dissertation The Static Theater of Maurice Maeterlinck. Assistant curator of Lin zhaohua Theatre Arts Festival and Cao yu International Theater Festival. Stage Manager of theatrical groups in HK and Macao. Drama critic in mainstream medias including ifeng, the paper, guoke, caixin, wenhui Daily, Va Kio Daily and many more. 上海最活跃的非职戏剧团，成立于2013年9月。“以原创为主、向经典学习”是我们的理念；“非职业、很专业”是我们的信仰。曾在上海话剧艺术中心、可当代艺术中心、1933微剧场、800秀、长宁文化艺术中心及各大社区文化活动中心演出。至今累计70余部作品、250余场演出。

Founded in September, 2013, “We Love Acting” is the amateur drama troupe in Shanghai.
