喜新而不厌旧是经营的常胜之道

迈克尔·秀瓷（Michael·Schultz）八十年代就在国际艺术舞台上享有业界霸主的地位，至今活跃度仍然不减。本来对于一个拥有辉煌业绩史的画廊来说，把控和操作旧有的艺术家资源是最为保险的经营套路，但是做为一个把开拓新途径当成惯性运动的先锋者，秀瓷先生显然在发掘和发射艺术新星的过程中体会到更多的乐趣。

秀瓷1951年出生于德国黑森林的弗罗伊登城，毕业于柏林自由大学的音乐与戏剧专业。曾担任“柏林艺术”杂志社主编和Michael Wewerka画廊（柏林）董事会总经理。1986年，他在柏林创立了迈克尔·秀瓷画廊，专注于当代绘画和雕塑。

画廊成立之始，经营的艺术家主要是里希特（Gerhard Richter）、 基弗（Anselm Kiefer）、巴塞利茨(Georg Baselitz)、珀尔克（Sigmar Polke）、吕佩尔茨（Markus Luepertz)彭克（A.R.Penck)等德国大牌艺术家，以及巴斯奎特（Jean-Michel Basquiat）、哈林（Keith Haring）、劳申伯格（Robert Rauschenberg）和安迪·沃霍尔（Andy Warhol）等美国艺术大师。

2005年秀瓷扩大经营，成立了秀瓷当代艺术画廊，旗下经营的部分新锐艺术家迅速脱颖而出，如科妮莉亚·施莱姆（Cornelia Schleime）、赫尔·莱贝格（Helge Leiberg）、诺贝特·比斯基 （Norbert Bisky）和丝欧（SEO）。寻找和发射新兴艺术明星，亦然成为秀瓷画廊在国际艺术界另一个醒目的标签。

秀瓷先生在担任科隆艺术博览会资格审核委员会委员、韩国首尔KIAF艺术委员会委员、科隆艺术博览会21管理委员会委员、德国慕尼黑Munich Contempo艺术博览会联合创始人等职务的同时，其旗下画廊也是艺术马德里（ARCO Madrid）、艺术迈阿密（Art Miami）、纽约军械库展（Armory New York）等大型艺术博览会的常规参展商，并与诸多国际著名美术馆保持多年的合作关系。

秀瓷画廊近些年在北京和首尔开设了办事处，为亚洲艺术家在欧洲以及欧洲艺术家在亚洲提供发展平台。除继续经营里希特 、巴塞雷茨、彭克、吕佩尔兹、珀尔克、劳申伯格 等大师级艺术家之外，又吸收了Andy Denzler、 黄河、黄敏、周操、马军、Joel Morrison、Edi Rama和Jiny Lan（蓝镜）等来自亚洲和欧洲的当代艺术后起之秀。

旧的不去，新的也照样来。秀瓷凭借敏锐的艺术嗅觉和30多年的从业经验，在造星的途上一路狂奔。让我们拭目以待，看看谁会是他发射上天的下一颗卫星吧。

Keeping the old and discovering the new is the success story

Still today Michael Schultz, who has enjoyed a high level of prestige since the 1980s already, is one of the most active German gallerists in the international art market. To keep and handle the established star-artists well is normally the safest way of business for a gallery. But as a pioneer, who regards searching something new as a kind of habit, Michael Schultz seems to have much more fun with discovering shooting stars. 

Born in Freudenstadt in Germany's Black Forest in 1951, Michael Schultz studied music and theatre at Freie Universitaet Berlin. He was editor in chief of the now defunct "Berliner Kunstmagazin". He went on to become managing director of Michael Wewerka Gallery (Berlin). In 1986 he founded the Gallery Michael Schultz that focuses on contemporary painting and sculpture.

During the early years Georg Baselitz, Markus Luepertz, and A.R. Penck dominated the program, in addition also Anselm Kiefer and Gerhard Richter as well as American positions such as Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, Robert Rauschenberg and Andy Warhol.

An additional gallery, called "Michael Schultz Contemporary" was opened in 2005. Due to this important accent on the philosophy of the gallery, new stars were quickly discovered and developed, such as Cornelia Schleime, Helge Leiberg, Norbert Bisky and SEO. The discovery and successful establishment of new artists became another bright label for Schultz's gallery.

Apart from his role as a board member of Art Cologne,  Art Committee KIAF Seoul, Admission Committee for Art Fair.21 Cologne, Co-Founder of the Munich Contempo Art Fair, Contemporary Istanbul, Michael Schultz is also among most major art fairs' regular exhibitors, such as ARCO Madrid, Art Miami and Armory New York. 

Opening offices in Peking and Seoul, Michael Schultz has built a platform for Asian artists in Europe and European artists vice versa. Apart from artists like Georg Baselitz, Markus Lüpertz, A.R. Penck, Sigmar Polke, Robert Rauschenberg, Gerhard Richter, Andy Warhol, and Gilbert & George, new generation artists from Germany, Switzerland, Austria, China, and Korea, such as Andy Denzler, Huang He, Huang Min, Ma Jun, Joel Morrison, Cornelia Schleime, SEO, Zhou Cao, Edi Rama, and Jiny Lan are represented here. 

The old ones do not go, but new ones are permanently coming. With his sharp instinct for art and the experience of over thirty years in business, Michael Schultz keenly faces future projects. Let's wait and see who his next shooting star will be.
