Raw Umber and Silk. Jo Darvall New paintings
A recent successful collaborative exhibition shown in Singapore and afull-page review in Asian Art News, has sparked a uniqueopportunity for Jo Darvall, an artist from Fremantle, WesternAustralia. The exhibition was titled All that is Changing and focused on a tribute to two artists,Chinese born Singaporean Georgette Chen and Australian, Kathleen O’Connor.
In a world moving so frenetically, and in which much of our culture isconsidered to be disposable, it behoves us to revisit and honour the artistsand their bodies of work that have come before - and to not forget. Thisconcept is not surprisingly universal - and has captured the attention of keycultural icons in Beijing namely the Manet Art Museum and ZhongGuan Cun Magazine.
Invited by the Manet Art Museum in Beijing, China, Jonow has the opportunity to exhibit a selection of the large scale works shownin Singapore - and new works of art completed after her residency inSingapore.
Large canvases and works on paper were specificallycreated by Darvall for the Beijing exhibition and reflect the beautifullandscape of the South West corner of Western Australia - described byAustralian Geographic as one of the worlds major biodiversity regions.Additional new work includes a suite of monoprints created at Darvall’s printstudio, situated in the Heathcoat Cultural Centre. A more resent collaborationbetween Darvall and one of her printmaker students, Bethwyn Porter, featuresimages of the landscape around the studio. Originally an importantsite of the Beeliar Indigenous elders, Heathcoat was considered by the Englishcolonisers as the site for the capital of Western Australia. This waseventually established further up the Swan River and named Perth in Western Australia.
The narrative continues.
