抵抗引力

我们应该怎样表达我们所感知的世界呢？或，我们应该怎样表达我们所不能感知的那一部分世界呢？

2015年夏天，艺术家沈凌昊将当时还在旧金山艺术学院读书的王志渊的作品发给我时，我记得那是一组“36色系列”以及一组“无题”。它们几乎都是暗色调（近乎全是黑色只有少许几幅白色）的作品。那都是些非形象化的绘画，画板上全色的调子下观众需要很留意才可以看到那些在底子上小心勾画的背景——与其说它们是纵横的线条不如说那是一种力与力、能量与能量的对阵，是创作者之于他所感知的世界的勾勒和概括。而对于王志渊的作品，没有办法一眼望到底，观者需要的是静静地在那里，和作者一起慢下來，如是才能感受作品其中的能量、节奏、频率。马列维奇说过，至上主义的关键是发现了一种意料之外的方向。作品不仅只属于可见世界或这个苹果会掉在地上的地球了，艺术家打开了另外一种时间、空间、可能性。机缘巧合，2015年那一次群展，我们的标题即叫：见所不见。

犹如二十世纪哲学和艺术的先驱所诉，艺术世界并不隶属于地球和地球的物理法则，它属于全人类、全宇宙。随着时间改变，我们会贴切地感受到：艺术和艺术家的存在就是让我们慢慢明白那些我们暂时还不能够明白的事。 而对于王志渊来说，这种抵抗惯性和这种打开隐蔽的视界即是他的宿命，而一切看起来，还只是刚刚开始……

Obliged Dialogue

How should we express the world we perceived? Or, how should we express that part of world we cannot perceive?  

The summer of 2015, when Shen Linghao (artist Zero Shen) emailed me some images of works by Wang Zhiyuan who was studying at San Francisco Art Institute, and I remember those works were serious of 36-color and series of Untitled. The works were mostly dark (almost all black only a few were white) toned and non-figurative, so the audiences need to be very patient to observe the underneath drawings which are carefully sketched on the edges of the panels in continuous tones. Better to describe them as a confrontation between force and force, energy and energy than just vertical and horizontal lines. They are in fact the generalization of the world he perceives with his own method. For Zhiyuan's works, it is impossible to generalize in one word, and the audiences need to slow down their pace with the artist, so they could feel the energy, rhythm and frequency of the works. Malevich once addressed that the key of supremacism is to find an unexpected direction.The works are not limited to the visible world or the Earth where apples fall on the ground, but they open up another kind of time, space and possibility. By coincidence, I curated a group show in 2015 with Zhiyuan’s works included, and the title of the exhibition was "Inner Clarity".

As 20th century philosophy and art pioneers mentioned: the world of art does not belong to Earth and its physical laws, but for all mankind and universe. As time passes by, we will eventually understand that the purpose of existence of art and artists is to elaborate things that we cannot understand now.For Wang Zhiyuan, this resistance to inertia and this opening up for hidden horizons are his destiny, and everything seems just a beginning now...
