(Sound Walks):

Pierre Redon always walks with his ears.
Since 2007, he started a series of site-specific projects known as Sound Walks (or 'Marches Sonores' in French) throughout the Vosges mountains, River Loire to YuyuanRoad in Shanghai. Listeners were given a route map marked with a dozen or more interactive or symbolic stops, each an invitation to stand still or carry-on walking whilst listening to recordings on a portable player that accompanies the map. As if to complete a game, participators had to read Tarot cards, dig out a mark hidden beside the river, or meet with a boy with ceramic bells. Eventually, the walking experience culminated with a music ritual.
Muffled sounds outside the headphones mingled with voices or noises coming from within, adding another layer to the physical sensations. Audience not only listened to interviews with local inhabitants as they recount stories, but also explored the relationship between individuals and their environment and culture.
For many years Pierre Redon travelled freely throughout land, forests and rivers, listening, walking and creating. As both a musician and anthropologist, he led audience to rediscover their bodily sensations, and re-examine the relationship between human and environment.
The creation of Tülü was the sublimation of his aesthetics. Audience was not just listeners but also co-creators of the artwork. They inject part of their bodily memory into the final production through a lock of hair, or a piece of drawing. The final production becomes an organic living object that carries memory and temporality.
His other projects included documentary, film music composition, photography and so on. He was once resident artist at La Pommerie; his works were on exhibit worldwidely in many institutions including Quai Branly Museum, Aubusson Tapestry andWeaving Art Museum, Jean Lur?at Theatre and The Costumes Museum and TheatreJorge Elierce Gaitan in Bogota, Columbia.
