Lecture: As you go . . . the roads under your feet, towards a new future
(If you want to travel, build roads first)
Lecturer: Biljana Ciric
The project started as research trips supported by Foundation for Art Initiatives to specific regions in Central Asia, the Balkans, and East Africa, part of an effort to tryand understand the impact of the OBOR infrastructural investments in local terms.
Many of these localities are not usually on the contemporary art map, most of which are dismissed for being non-western, or not western enough or not civilized. Society of constant transitions.
The more historical research related to this project looks at specific complexities within these regions—and the different influences these have produced—and how we might be able to further unpack them today from our present perspective, while also connecting such concerns to the OBOR. One important research trajectory addresses the Non-Aligned Movement that previously attempted to connect so-called “third world” countries in the 1960s, and how such connections influence the development of different modernities, producing different geo-political imaginations.
The presentation will discuss new project launch in 2020 that will imagine new connections within and between these localities that could be lasting and function as vehicles for further thinking about the commons, searching for ways to think and act in new, more self-determined situations.
While internazionalization has been complicated project so far this initiative temps to think about modes of connecting, creating community and more sustainableconnection and process opening rather then logic of final presentation throughprism of contemporary art.
