From September 12th to September 15th 2019, the 5th edition of almost art project (aap) will take place at Tank Shanghai in conjunction with Tank Art Festival. This four-day exhibition will feature over 300 works by 58 outsider artists, 30 of which are showing at the exhibition for the first time.
Entering our fifth year and as always, we had an open call in August and received more than 3000 works from 202 participants in China and abroad. The works span different genres, including installation, collage, oil paintings, digital painting, paper-cutting and sewing, etc. The age of the artists ranges from 19 to 91 years old. They are in different professions but share the same passion for artistic creation, presenting a vibrant world to the audience with a wonderful variety of themes and stories in the works.

The 4th almost art Festival
2019 is a crucial year for aap. From January 18th to 21st, we showcased works by 8 artists in the 27th edition of the Outsider Art Fair in New York, bringing creativity from China to global audience. Collaborated with FIU Gallery, we had the 4th edition of aap in Shanghai in September 2018. In April 2019, we collaborated with Beijing Times Art Museum to set up a temporary exhibition space in the museum, gained recognition nationwise. This year is the first time that aap holdsits annual exhibition outside of Beijing since it launched in 2015. We lookforward to seeing more art enthusiasts interested in outsider art.

About almost art
almost art project (aap) is the first art festival in China that specializes in showcasing the works of outsider artists (self-taught artists with no professional training). Since the inaugural exhibition in 2015, the annual event in Beijing has been held successfully in the past four years. Over a hundred outsider artists of all backgrounds and ages have been discovered through the platform, and more than a thousand works of outsider art have been shown at aap’s public exhibitions.
We have the largest outside art media platform in China and publish the only continuous yearbook on Chinese outside art, Art Su. As a window to Chinese outside art, not only do we promote it through various public events and collaborations, we have also brought Chinese outside art to the US and Japan in 2018 and 2019, representing China in the increasingly important world map of outside art.
