“缱绻——2019芳草地艺术节”已在芳草地画廊与大家见面,这个新鲜的展览汇集了六位各具特色的艺术家,为观众呈现了一场新旧语言、多维方式,跨时代性的缱绻互通的当代艺术展览。芳草地画廊邀请艺术家查美男分享她艺术创作的缱绻乡愁。
“Qian Quan—2019 Parkview Green Art Festival” is currently on show at Parkview Green Art. This fresh and vibrant exhibition brings together six artists to present a multi-dimensional artistic praxis combining old and new languages. In this issue of "Inside and Outside Art", artist Sun Jing will share her artistic conception and will explore the topic of homesickness.

缱绻,不相离也。这种关系复杂且微妙,很像自己创作的一种感受。日常生活中,传统对我来说更像是一个忘年之交。
I like the concept of this exhibition. It suggests a complex and delicate idea of relationship which has similarities with my creations. In our daily life tradition is for me like a lost friend.

山峰、江水、树木并未作具体细致的描写
追求的是苍茫雨雾中自然界的特殊韵致

Different shades of mist in a strange environment, mountain peaks, river water, trees: all these elements cannot be described in a detailed way to represent the charm of the vastity of the landscape dominated by fog and rain.
我关注传统文人的生活细节,包括他们的生活环境、兴趣爱好、交友游玩等等,对我来说这种感觉更像是一种乡愁,使我不断地望向遥远之地。
I prefer to focus on the details of the typical life of traditional literati, including their living environment, interests and hobbies, as well as their friendship and travels. For me, the rediscovering of these traditional elements makes me feel a sense of nostalgia. This emotion makes me keep on looking at faraway places.

乡愁属于我理想中对遥远的古典文化和生活的一种向往之情,那里有在现实生活中极为稀缺的生命价值,虚无缥缈,无所作为,坐看云起,当然,乡愁之所以存在,是因为它已无法在现实中得到确认,所以,在作品中我通常都把它描绘为一种氛围和情绪,朦胧不清,青烟飘袅。
Homesickness can be associated with the idea of classical culture. There is a lack of appreciation of important moments of the human existence: illusion, contemplation, observation of the sky and the cloud. Nostalgia exists because there is something in life that we cannot fully grasp and that is extremely unstable. In my works, the idea of nostalgia is conveyed through the depiction of haze and smoke, which create a vague and impalpable atmosphere.

正因如此,在我的作品中吸取了宋元水墨画中山间、水面、天边时常漂浮着的烟云,那种轻薄的、透气的朦胧感,是我内心乡愁的再现。同时,日本绘画和浮世绘的内容、色彩、构图也是我着重学习的地方,将这些元素运用到我的作品里,借此拉近观者同作品的距离,希望传达一丝人间烟火。
The images of smoky clouds floating in the mountains and the depiction of the classical water and mountain landscape in my works is a clear reference to the tradition of ink paintings from Song and Yuan dynasties. The light also suggests the idea of homesickness. Meanwhile, the content, color and composition of Japanese painting and ukiyo-e are also sources of inspiration for me. By incorporating these elements into my works, I hope to shorten the distance between the audience and the works and to awaken feelings and emotions.

据说凡求画者,酬米一斗 ,擅长画花、鱼、鸟、尤其是鸡
他为京都相国寺所做的一套30幅《动植彩绘》和隔扇画《群鸡图》是其最著名的作品。
Ito Jakuchu,is a Japanese painter from the Edo period.
He is good at painting flowers, fishes, birds and especially chickens. His most famous works are a set of 30 colored paintings depicting a group of chickens. He painted it for the prime minister temple in Kyoto.
伊藤若冲说:千载只待具眼者。
Ito Jakuchu said: waiting thousands of years to actually get to know somebody deeply.
很久之前第一次看到伊藤若冲《鸟兽花木图屏风》时便被震撼到了,很难想象百年前的他能够有如此的想象力来创造出今天看起来都非常的当代和奇幻的作品。所以特意去了解了他所生活的时代背景,他的作品中融合了中国、日本传统艺术的特色,同时还包含了西方艺术的学习以及他的超现实的想象。多元文化的融合碰撞使他的创作更加自由,在此基础上融会贯通,创造了一种属于自己的独特风格,令人佩服!
I was shocked when I first saw Itosho's birds, animals, flowers and wood screen a long time ago. It is hard to imagine that he had such an imagination to create fantastic works that look very modern today. Therefore, I tried to understand the background of the era in which he lived. His works incorporated the characteristics of traditional Chinese and Japanese art, as well as the study of western art and his surrealist imagination. The fusion and combination of diverse cultures made his creation freer. On this basis, he elaborated a unique style of his own, which is admirable.

华嵒也是我很喜欢的一位画家,几年前去参观台北故宫博物院时被馆藏《华喦写生册》深深吸引。他对自然的塑造功力令人折服,画册中有一幅《蜂虎图》,一改老虎凶猛的形象,而是将其描绘成一只站在平原杂草中骨瘦如柴的样子。他在荆棘上描绘了一只蜜蜂,这在传统的语义里意味着封官进爵。但仔细看老虎的神情似乎是被蜜蜂所蛰,表情或痛苦或无奈,意味深长。仿佛画家本人的性情跃然纸上,感染力极强。华喦的画有一种“人情味”,他具备了一种捕捉自然天趣和营造细腻体验的天才,既注意细节描写的精微性,又不失笔墨的简逸生动,这些都是我十分欣赏和受益的。
Hua Yan is one of my favorite painters as well. I visited the Palace Museum in Taipei a few years ago and I was attracted by the collection HuaYan sketch book. His ability to shape nature is amazing. In the picture titled "bee tiger", the artist challenges the common perception of the tiger as a fierce animal and depicts it as a scrawny figure standing in the weeds of the plain. He also depicts a bee on a thorn: this image is a metaphor to represent an official promotion in the traditional culture. If we look closely at the tiger's expression, we can notice that it seems to have been stung by a bee and it is characterized by an expression of pain or helplessness. This is very meaningful, as if the painter's own temperament was drawn on the paper. Hua Yan's paintings are imbued with a sense of humanism. He has a talent for capturing the shades of nature and representing human experience. He not only pays attention to the details of description, but also keeps the simplicity and vividness of the ink. I admire these qualities a lot.

平时喜欢看一些古籍及诗词,佩服和感叹汉字文化的魅力,短短的诗句竟包含如此丰富的情感和生命感悟,给我的创作带来了新的思考和启发。所以我常把一些能打动我和有共鸣的词句记下来,用到作品中,希望可以增强作品的感受力和精神境界。
I learn to appreciate the charm of Chinese culture by reading ancient books and poems. Short poems contain so many emotions and life metaphors, and they represent a source of inspiration for me. Therefore, I often write down some words from these poems. I incorporate these meanings into my works, hoping to enhance the sensibility and spiritual realm of the artwork.

“净菩提心如意宝”,是我收藏的一幅书法作品,就以其中的“菩提心”和“如意宝”为灵感创作了这次展出的两件作品。这句话来源于佛教术语,不仅仅是美好的祝愿,更多的是希望追求内心平静达到的平衡状态,于我而言,是把这种内心的修炼转换成绘画语言了。
Jing Bodhicitta and Ruyi Bao are calligraphic works in my collection. The titles come from Buddhist terminology. They suggest good wish, but also the hope to pursue a balanced state of inner peace. For me, it represents the re-elaboration of this inner cultivation process into a painterly language.

我是很喜欢猫的,自己也养了两只,也许是因为有它们的陪伴,潜移默化地给了我一些灵感吧。我画的老虎从早期偏写实的东西,逐渐发展到现在更具拟人化的特点。大家可以把我画的虎称之为大猫,突出呆萌的同时保留了一丝威严,紧皱的眉头,或疑惑、或愤怒的情绪传达。它张开的大口吐出幻化的彩云彩雾的时候,隐含的情感也同未知世界产生交流,这种转化应该会更容易被观众所接受。
I like cats very much and I have two cats. They are a source of inspiration. My tiger painting displays anthropomorphic characteristics, breaking away from the early realistic style. The image of the painting looks like a big cat with a majestic character. From his mouth colorful clouds and mist come out. The hidden emotions suggest an unknown dimension which should attract the curiosity of the audience.

我理解的雅俗共赏是更容易被大众所接受,又不失艺术家个人风格和观念创新的作品,这两点要做到完全融合其实是很难的。
In my opinion, works which are at the same time refined and popular can be easier accepted by the public, while the artist can keep his personal technique and concept. To combination of these two aspects is very challenging for an artist.

苏轼被认为是朱竹鼻祖。
传言苏轼在任杭州通判的时候,一次坐于堂上,一时画兴勃发
而书案上没有墨只有朱砂,于是随手拿朱砂当墨画起竹来。
苏轼画朱竹,正体现了他不重形似的绘画主张
这种绘画理论具有远大的艺术观点,也是后来士大夫
“逸笔草草,聊以自娱,非求人赏”的艺术原理的发源。
Su Shi is regarded as the creator of red bamboo.
It is said that when Su Shi was in charge of Hangzhou Tong,
He once sat in the hall and made a booming painting. However, there was no ink but cinnabar on the book table, so he took cinnabar to paint the bamboo.
Su Shi's painting of red bamboo is reflecting his new painting proposition which was not officially recognized before.
This challenge becomes the origin of the famous sentence:
“I do my works carelessly just to amuse myself instead of expecting the others to appreciate them".
朱竹,是自古以来就有的传统,朱竹的画法源于苏轼,旁人质疑他:世间只有绿竹,哪来朱竹?苏轼答道:"世间无墨竹,既可以用墨画,何尝不可以用朱画!”对于苏轼这种打破常规抒胸中逸气的格局我很欣赏,并且受到了很大的启发。所以我尝试将红竹放到作品中,用我自己的理解和感受描绘出来,一方面是想体验文人内心的笔墨情操和人文精神,另一方面也希望能把传统文化内涵与当下自身情感的碰撞做个提炼注入在作品之中。
Since ancient times, there was a long tradition of red bamboo paintings. This painterly style came from Su Shi and some people challenged him saying that only green bamboo exists. Su Shi replied: "the world has no ink bamboo, but you use ink for painting bamboo. Why shouldn’t I use red cinnabar?”. I like very much Su Shi’s provocative attitude. So, I tried to incorporate red bamboo into the work and to paint it with my own understanding and feelings. On the one hand, I want to experience the feelings of the literati and their humanistic spirit. On the other hand, I hope that the combination between traditional culture and personal emotions can enrich my works.

我目前的创作状态比较稳定,在提炼传统水墨文化精神的同时,继续挖掘那种朦胧的乡愁感。现在的作品样式是近年总结出来的符合自身心境和情感的表达方式。
My creativity is relatively stable. While re- creating the spirit of traditional ink and wash culture, I continue to explore the theme of the feeling of homesickness. The style of the present works is a way of expressing personal emotions.

我通常会将生活中那些有意思的瞬间记录下来,并进行一些处理和调整,再运用水墨语言进行提炼表达,很多时候需要做一些减法来提升画面内在的气场和灵性。
I usually record the interesting moments of my life, I re-elaborate them and ultimately, I express them through the ink language. In many cases, I need to make some adjustments to improve the inner aura and spirituality of the picture.

在我看来,画家与大众是分别站在作品前后的,观众在观看绘画作品的同时,也是在同艺术家进行交流。在这个过程中,一个好的反馈渠道是非常重要的,既关系到青年艺术家能否持续地创造和改进作品,也直接影响着作品是否能够顺利地进入大众的视野和内心。
In my opinion, the artist and the public stand before and after the work respectively, and the audience is communicating with the artist while watching the painting. In this process, a good feedback channel is very important. This helps young artists to improve their works and to evaluate whether their works can smoothly reach the public's vision and heart.

当然,除了艺术家自身的努力外,通常对于青年艺术家来说,需要一个稳定的、长效的发展规划。无论是艺术家的成长与坚持,还是藏家和大众的培养与推广都离不开画廊以及艺术机构专业工作。只有处理好这个关系,才是一种良性的循环。
Young artists usually need a stable and long-term development plan. Both the growth and persistence of the artists and the cultivation and promotion of collectors and the public are inseparable from the professional activities of galleries and art institutions. Only when this relationship is well handled, can there be a stable artistic development.
如此一来,大众所接触到的艺术作品才是专业的、持续化的,是成体系的。而大众的反馈和交流也能源源不断地与艺术家的再创造碰撞出新的火花,艺术与大众的关系才能往前推进和相互发展。
In this way, works of art accessible to the public are professional, sustainable and systematic. The feedback from the public can enhance the creativity of the artists and can help to strengthen the relationship between the audience and the artist.
