昊国际策展人驻留项目由昊美术馆和万和昊美艺术酒店(上海)共同发起,面向全球公开征募希望深入了解中国当代艺术界的策展人、学者和艺术作家。该项目旨在促进全球驻留交换、并建立与各机构的长期合作,根据每位驻留策展人的兴趣,协助定制与艺术专业人士的会面、工作室参观,画廊和机构参访以及出席选定的演出和其他活动。此外,我们还邀请驻留策展人与美术馆团队协作,并为网站或微信撰写文章、举办公共讲座。

朴珠荣(Pil Joo Jung)是一位常驻韩国首尔的策展人、评论家, 她同时也是A.C.S的总监。她在A.C.S的主要策展项目包括:展示有关实验艺术的系列活动 “概念延南”(Conseptual Yeonnam);帮助策展人和艺术家与公众进行对话、分享想法和创造新内容的平台“策展沙龙”(Curator Salon)。朴珠荣还是首尔国立大学艺术社会学的博士学位候选人,她的研究方向包括艺术家的身份问题、文化内容的数字化、艺术家的福利问题以及艺术家的无形劳动。此外,她还参与有关提升艺术创作者福利、保障艺术家权利以及与当代艺术市场相关问题的演讲。
朴珠荣于2018年在江淮汽车中心下属的画廊担任策展人,并于2017年至2019年担任首尔市政府运营的艺术家不公平对待咨询中心的协调人。她策划的展览包括“凝聚的思想是令人不寒而栗的(一)”(Condensed minds are bone-chilling-Part 1)(2019),“我脑海中旋转的单词”(Words revolving in my mind)(2018),“冬季的城市驱动”(City Drive in the Winter)(2017),“视觉探索234”(Visual quest 234)(2017)和“对话项目”(Dialogue Project)(2017、2016)。

在HOW美术馆驻留期间,朴珠荣将继续她对艺术劳动和艺术家身份的概念性研究。当艺术品被展示和观看时,艺术家创造性的成果和他们在其他非艺术创作的普通劳动时间在多大程度上,与艺术品本身的价值创造过程相隔离?艺术家的作品和他们的日常生活具有某些独特性,也就是说,他们可能既不受监督,也没有被雇佣。同时,他们的劳动成果被运送到博物馆、美术馆和拍卖行中进行交易,并在这些地方被评估,然而艺术家常常被排除在这个过程之外。这与上班族的情况大不相同:当他们去洗手间或使用智能手机,他们的个人活动仍被视为是在工作时间或是这也是他们工作内容的一部分。
但是,由于艺术家没有被雇佣,因此只有当其创作成果在市场上交易时,他们的劳动价值才被认可。除此之外,艺术家正在做的大多数工作都是隐藏和不可见的。
基于对上海艺术家的采访,工作室访问的研究和观察艺术家们每天的生活,她计划收集有关他们的艺术和非艺术行为,并探索当今中国艺术家的身份特征。
A.C.S.(艺术,文化,空间)是一个策展团队,致力于与韩国和其他国家的艺术家与策展人展开国际艺术交流,并对艺术家的福利、艺术家的社会身份和艺术市场政策进行研究。该团队负责的项目包括“概念延南”(Conseptual Yeonnam)——该项目为艺术家提供展示其实验性创作的平台,以及“策展沙龙”(Curator Salon)。2019年4月A.C.S.参加了在瑞典斯德哥尔摩举办的另类艺术博览会“超级市场艺术博览会”(Supermarket Art Fair),并介绍了韩国的实验艺术实践。目前,该团队致力于建立东亚的艺术家和策展人与其他国家的联络。A.C.S.还创立了YouTube频道“韩国艺术”。


HOW International Curatorial Residency Program
Co-sponsored by HOW Art Museum and Onehome Art Hotel (Shanghai), HOW International Curatorial Residency Program launches an open call for curators, scholars and arts writers worldwide who are interested to get deeper insight of Chinese contemporary art scene. The residency program aims to motivate residency exchange opportunities around the world and to forge durable institutional relationships in the long run. Individualized arrangements will be provided for each curator-in-residence. The arrangements include meetings with art professionals, studio visits, gallery and institution visits, and attendance at selected performances and other events. Furthermore, the curators-in-residence are invited to work in close collaboration and coordination with HOW Art Museum team, as well as to produce a website/Wechat article or essay, or to organize a public event such as a lecture.
Pil Joo Jung
Pil Joo Jung is a curator, art critic and director of A.C.S based in Seoul, South Korea. Her major curatorial projects for A.C.S include Conseptual Yeonnam, a series of events showcasing experimental art, and Curator Salon, a platform that helps curators and artists to nurture dialogue with the public, share ideas and create new contents. Pil Joo Jung is also a PhD candidate in sociology of art at the Seoul National University. Her professional interests span artists’ identity, digitization of cultural contents, artists’ welfare and hidden work; furthermore she is involved in discourse on promotion of creators’ welfare, protection of the rights of artists and problems associated with the contemporary art market.
Pil Joo Jung was a curator of the gallery JAC affiliated with Jangahnpyeng Automotive Center in 2018 and worked as a coordinator for Counselling Center on Unfair Treatment of Artists run by Seoul Metropolitan Government from 2017 to 2019. The selected exhibitions she curated include “Condensed minds are bone-chilling-Part 1” (2019), “Words revolving in my mind”(2018), “City Drive in the Winter” (2017), “Visual quest 234” (2017) and “Dialogue Project” (2017, 2016).
In 2018 Pil Joo Jung had a curatorial residency at HIAP (Helsinki International Artist Program) in Finland; in 2019 she joined as an expert to MAP (Month of Art Practice) in Hanoi. Pil Joo Jung is an author of the book “The Wives who Became the Shine of Prominent Painters in Korea” (2006) and regularly contributes articles to art magazines such as Weekly Kyung Hyang, Misul Segye and Monthly Artist. She runs a website dedicated to Korean contemporary art “Art in Korea” (artinkorea.org) featuring articles written in non-Korean languages.
Research topic at the HOW Museum residency period
During the residency at the HOW Art Museum, Pil Joo Jung will continue her research on the notion of artistic labour and artist identity. When artworks are displayed and viewed, to what extent a creative effort of artists and their mundane non-artistic labour have been isolated from the value-making process of an artwork itself? The work of artists and their everyday live have certain uniqueness, that is, they might be neither supervised nor employed. At the same time, the result of their labour is traded and evaluated in museums, galleries and auction houses, and artists very often are excluded from this process. This is very different from the case of office workers: when they go to a restroom or use smartphone, their personal activities are still considered as working time or tangible work.
However, given that artists are not employed, thus only when the result of their creation is traded in the market, the value of their labour is recognized. Other than that, most of the work that artists are doing is hidden and invisible.
Basing her research on interviews, studio visits and observations of the daily life of artists living in Shanghai, Pil Joo Jung intends to collect narratives of their artistic and non-artistic practices as well as to explore the features of artist identity in nowadays China.
About A.C.S.
A. C. S. (Art. Culture. Space) is a curatorial team working on international art exchange among artists and curators from South Korea and other countries, as well as conducting research on the artists’ welfare, social status of artists and the policies of the art market. The team runs Conceptual Yeonnam, that provides artists opportunities to show their experimental works, and Curator Salon. In April 2019 A.C.S. participated in Supermarket Art Fair, an alternative art fair in Stockholm, Sweden, where as an exhibitor introduced Korean experimental art practices. At the moment, the team is focusing on connecting artists and curators from East Asia to other countries. A.C.S. also has a YouTube channel “Art in Korea”.
