🕒Time:3pm-4:30pm, 8th December, 2019
📍Venue: Haohe Hall, 2F, Onehome Art Hotel
🙋🏻‍♀️Speaker: Pil Joo Jung | Curator, Art Critic
▶️Language: English/Chinese

About the Talk

Pil Joo Jung will give a lecture on alternative ways of holding an art exhibition in South Korea and underline the meaning of curating experimental/conceptual art exhibitions in urban environments. She will discuss this topic in a context of the following subjects: type of venue, genre,  sustainability, artist, audience and network.

Offices, in general, rarely function as places where artworks are shown like in museums or commercial galleries. They, nevertheless, have new potential to work as alternative art spaces. In her talk, Pil Joo will discuss the new possibilities of office spaces in urban environment through introducing her projects in Seoul: Curator Salon and Conceptual Yeonnam,  platforms for art practitioners and artists to build network, share ideas, and create new contents.

For almost two years on monthly basis Pil Joo has been organizing experimental art projects in the Projectroom Yeonnam, an alternative art space in the formal office. During the talk Pil Joo Jung will introduce seven experimental art shows that were held there, including performances, installations, sound art, perfume art, and will explain how the art practices can transform a non-art related place into an alternative art space and which factors are pivotal in this process. Furthermore, she will talk overall about experimental art, non-traditional art spaces and highlight the differences between ‘alternative space’, ‘new space’ and ‘artist-run space’ in South Korea.
