No future installation, OCT Boxes Art Museum

Introduce of Artists:2

(Andrzej Wasilewski)

"The No future installation is made of fluorescent lamps that turn on and off. Lamps built the inscription 'No future', which was also a slogan in popular culture in the 70s to protest against patterns / stereotypes. The installation is controlled by a device whose sound resembles the ticking of a clock - countdown. The work is placed in the last room of the Museum - at the end of the exhibition narrative. It seems to be the question asked: does humanity have any future by ignoring current problems, such as climate change or pollution? Technology will not save us, it can break down like fluorescent lamps forming the inscription 'no future' ... and the clock is still ticking to the dead end."

"No future" at OCT Boxes Art Museum

"Professor Szczecin Academy of Art Andrzej Wasilewski, after working intensively for 4 full days, perfectly presented the installation work "No Future" with an electromagnetic field safe discharge. Taking into account the site constraints of the OCT Boxes Art Museum, Andrzej Wasilewski lowered the voltage of the Tesla coil discharge, so that the electric spark generated a safe electromagnetic field with only the sound of a tick. Electromagnetic fields illuminate fluorescent tubes and line up punk slogans with "No future" (Andrzej Wasilewski implemented the extremely dangerous Tesla coil's 500,000 volt voltage discharge effect at the 6th Poznan "Mediation" Biennale in Poland in 2018. The sound of a discharge sounds like a thunderous thunder. The sound of "No Future" is emitted randomly by the electromagnetic field, without any specific indication. However, under the condition of energy loss, the electromagnetic field sound of ticking and ticking can be easily prompted as time passes, which points to an artificially generated future and its conceptual dilemma, that is, VR, AR, AI philosophy and parallel worlds often encounter editing, Is the deleted "No future" a human future? To paraphrase a term used in a machine-written work in one of the most absurd authoritative art institutions of the moment, the work may 'dissolve the current state of labor and power, erode the function and value of the whole system, and restore collective autonomy'"

About the Artist

(Andrzej Wasilewski)

Born in 1975 in Torun (PL), graduated from Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun, the Faculty of Fine Arts in 2000. Works in Szczecin Academy of Art (PL).

Andrzej Wasilewski works are critical, philosophical and social. The disagreement with the existing reality, which appears in his work, is the result of growing out in the culture and atmosphere of "punk". Installations fight against themselves - denying their sense, self-destruct, contain the potential of a dangerous paralyzing weapon. A recognizable element is the visual form referring to the industrial iconography of machines, devices, architecture, based on simple, scientific experiments, but also quoting elements of popular culture.

He presented his works, among others, in Japan, China, Indonesia, USA, Uruguay, Germany, France, the Czech Republic, Spain, Poland, Italy, Ukraine and Lithuania
