塔瓦雷斯 · 斯特拉坎（Tavares Strachan）是玛丽安 · 古德曼画廊大家庭的最新成员。他往往从航空学、天文学、深海探险和极端气候学等领域汲取灵感提炼作品，构建充满寓意的宏大作品，讲述文化的位移、人类的愿景以及死亡的局限性。他以文字为基础创作的霓虹雕塑是一曲有关政治与文化当下的唱诗，而他的艺术语汇则是为动员族群和社会变革而付出的努力。斯特拉坎宏大而开放的艺术实践中包括众多与艺术机构的合作项目，例如：巴尔的摩艺术博物馆，新奥尔良Prospect 3当代艺术三年展，里昂双年展和麻省理工学院List视觉艺术中心等。

聚焦"ENOCH "项目

关于艺术家

斯特拉坎1979年出生于巴哈马首都拿骚，目前在纽约和拿骚生活和创作。他2003年获得罗德岛设计学院玻璃艺术学士学位，2006年获得耶鲁大学雕塑艺术硕士学位。

Tavares Strachan, the latest addition to the Marian Goodman Gallery roster. Aeronautics, astronomy, deep-sea exploration, and extreme climatology are but some of the thematic arenas out of which Strachan creates his monumental allegories that tell of cultural displacement, human aspiration, and mortal limitation. His text-based neon sculptures are an anthem for our political and cultural moment, and his lexicon an effort to mobilize community and societal change. Strachan’s ambitious, open-ended practice has included collaborations with numerous organizations and institutions, including The Baltimore Museum of Art, Prospect 3. New Orleans, La Biennale de Lyon, and The MIT List Visual Arts Center, among others.

FOCUS ON TAVARES’ PROJECT ENOCH

An interview by LACMA, taking a closer look into Tavares' project ENOCH, which was made in collaboration with the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Take a look behind the scenes with Strachan as he details the project and his thought process along the way.

On December 8, 2018, LACMA Art + Technology Lab grant recipient Tavares Strachan launched his project ENOCH into space. Created in collaboration with LACMA, Strachan’s ENOCH is centered around the development and launch of a 3U satellite that brings to light the forgotten story of Robert Henry Lawrence Jr., the first African American astronaut selected for any national space program. In this new body of work, Strachan combines hidden histories, traditions of ancient Egypt, Shinto rituals and beliefs, and the history of exploration. This short film goes behind the scenes and presents the artist’s perspective on this project.

About the artist

Strachan was born in 1979 in Nassau, Bahamas, and currently lives and works between New York City and Nassau. He received a BFA in Glass from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2003 and an MFA in Sculpture from Yale University in 2006.

Strachan’s work has been featured in numerous solo exhibitions including You Belong Here, Prospect 3. Biennial, New Orleans; The Immeasurable Daydream, Biennale de Lyon, Lyon; Polar Eclipse, The Bahamas National Pavilion 55th Venice Biennale, Venice; Seen/Unseen, Undisclosed Exhibition, New York; Orthostatic Tolerance: It Might Not Be Such a Bad Idea if I Never Went Home Again, MIT List Visual Arts Center, Cambridge; among others. He has been the recipient of numerous awards including Artist in Residence at the Getty Research Institute (2019-2020); Frontier Art Prize (2018), and the Allen Institute’s inaugural artist-in-residence (2018), LACMA Art + Technology Lab Artist Grant (2014), Tiffany Foundation Grant (2008), Grand Arts Residency Fellowship (2007), and the Alice B. Kimball Fellowship (2006).
