Tang Dayao : Epic

Platform China is privileged to announce that Tang Dayao's solo exhibition "Epic " was launched on Sept. 05, 2020.
As the work of Tang Dayao after three-year painstaking efforts from 2018 to 2020, Epic 1 describes the grand scene of collective melee, and involves combined vision-narration experience, such as planning, comprehensive setting and character setting. The artist's interest involves visual perception of scale, using virtual epics to blur history. It reminds us to doubt about time and fact.
During the multifarious all-factor creation, his consistent composition consciousness and first attempt of grand scene bring out the best in each other, and collide with the refined character setting. Wonderfully, the picture includes thousands of figures and dozens of characters in close shot. The author ingeniously embeds the figures in the affectionate description of natural landform, and processes the “figures displaying the landscape” in traditional landscape painting in a refined and personalized manner. This is one of the important experiences in the balanced character management skills of the author. Meanwhile, in the production of the non-conventional big scene, the author abandons the historical appearance and realistic tradition of epic painting in general sense, even demonstrates the impression of youth culture in the virtual information-media era, and refers to certain styles of scenes of electronic sports game. In the future with ever-chaotic and uncertain global politics and public feeling, melee and “epic” boast certain enlightenment today.
