张子叶 Zhang Ziye《模样.58》Appearance 5840 × 30cm 布面油画 oil on canvas 2019张子叶的作品在最初给观者带来与众不同的视觉体验 —— 布面油彩却呈现纸本水粉一般温和清亮的色泽，画布表面永远笼罩着一层薄纱般的水汽，像透过雨天挂着雾气与水滴的车窗望向街道，又像隔着水下玻璃隧道看海洋馆斑斓的鱼群，因距离而略显朦胧，温和明确地持续发光。Zhang Ziye’s works provide the viewers with a unique visual experience: her artworks, especially the oils on canvas, are characterized by mild and clear layers of color, similar to gouache on paper. The surface of the painting seems to be covered with a layer of gauze-like vapor: this vision resembles the view of the street observed from the car window with fog and raindrops on a rainy day, or the underwater seen through a glass tunnel in the aquarium. The vision looks hazy because of the distance but the images continue to glow, gently and clearly.子叶用丙烯混合gesso打底剂调出清透的底色，在布面上反复刷很多遍，才接着用油画颜料作画。艺术家弗朗西斯·培根提到过，“绘画是一个人的神经系统在画布上的投射”；对子叶来说，最佳的创作状态是安心而轻松的。只有艺术家自己先沉静下来，作品的纯净才有抵达观众内心的可能。Ziye mixes acrylic with gesso to apply layers of color on the painting surface in order to adjust the background colour before applying the oil paint. Francis Bacon said: “Painting is the pattern of one's own nervous system which is projected on canvas”. For Ziye, peace and relaxation are the best psychological condition for artistic creation: only when she calms down, then she is able to convey to the audience the purity of her works. 《无题》 Untitled 210 × 150 cm动物与女孩是张子叶描绘的主题。艺术家说，自己越是成长越喜欢纯净感，描绘动物和女孩的过程本身治愈了她。尤其在描绘猫科动物的时候，她找到一种与人类相似的眼神，从中又寻到了相似的表情和情绪。在接触动物的过程中，子叶越来越喜欢动物，也越来越爱画它们。
The visual repertoire of Zhang Ziye is populated by animals and girls. The artist says that the more she grows mature, the more she pursues a sense of purity: the process of representing animals and girls has a healing power for her. While depicting cats, she realizes that they have similarities with humans in terms of expressions and emotions. The more she spends time with cats, the more she becomes fond of them and keen to represent them in her artistic creation. 《模样》系列 The Appearance Series一些动物习性令她在意：互不干扰，恒久陪伴。画里的动物是有温度的同伴，它们不求关注，神情中却表现出天然而坚定的陪伴，让人想起日本作家夏目漱石笔下的猫对人类的描述：Some animals’ habits attract her attention: for example, they can be good companions while keeping a distance between each other. The animals represented in the painting are indeed warm companions: they don’t seek attention, but they show a genuine and natural friendship. This remind us of the perception cats have towards human in the novel of the Japanese writer Natsume Soseki:“You shouldn’t hate a good master just because he is cold and reserved. Indifference is a distinctive character of human nature: those who don’t conceal it are the only honest people”. 在深刻了解和懂得之后仍然选择陪伴，子叶作品中的动物因而让人感受到温暖与安心。艺术家自己也说：“这是与人类相似的眼神。当你和一个人长时间对视会萌生各种情绪，你看对方的同时，也能感觉到被凝视。有时候我看着它们就觉得，好像不是你去读懂它，而是它读懂了你。”The animals depicted by the artist choose to accompany humans after developing a deep understanding of them: this makes the viewer feel warm and at ease. The artist states: “The animals I depict are similar to us in terms of eye expression. When you look at somebody for a long time, you develop emotions and feelings: the more you look the more you feel being stared at. Sometimes animals understand us more than we understand them”. 《小样》系列 The Petit Things Series子叶笔下的小女孩留齐刘海短发，身边常有动物的亲密相伴。女孩和动物都是可爱的，但当二者并列时，观者很难不觉察到其中的忧伤。可能如同露水坠落于兰叶尖，兰叶被重量压低、却不改其原有的优美弧度一般，纯净的事物降临到这混沌的世界，尽管出于自我保护渐渐变得沉默而有距离，却掩盖不住它与生俱来的真善与纯粹。张子叶的创作时时提示着这样一种动物习性，是去爱，去彼此尊重，去陪伴，去把口袋里的温暖分你一半。The little girl often appearing in Ziye’s paintings has short hair with fringe and is often depicted with animals. Girls and animals are lovely, but when the two are placed next to each other, the viewer cannot help but grasping a sense of melancholy. It is just like dew falling on the tip of an orchid leaf: the orchid leaf is weighed down without changing its original graceful character. Pure things come to this chaotic world and learn to be quiet and distant for self-protection, while keeping their kind and pure nature. 张子叶，1988年生于安徽，2013年毕业于四川美术学院油画系，获硕士学位，现工作生活于北京。主要个展包括“狮子座——张子叶、刘纪生双个展”，自在空间画廊，石家庄，2016，“子叶心语——张子叶个人作品展”，光谷美术馆，武汉，2010，等；主要群展包括“Hi21艺术市集”，昆泰·嘉瑞文化中心，北京，2020，“交互的未来当代新锐青年艺术家作品展”，罗湖美术馆，深圳，2018，“中国未来—新兴艺术家作品展”，今日美术馆，北京，2012，等。Ziye Zhang was born in Anhui, in 1988. She graduated from the Oil Painting Department of Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts in 2013 with a master's degree. The artist currently lives and works in Beijing.
