Studio Gallery is honored to participate in 2020 West Bund Art & Design. This time the gallery will present recent works by three excellent young artists Liu Jiadong, Ou Ming, and Zhang Yangbiao with whom the gallery has cooperated for a long time. We welcome you to visit our booth! Today’s post is going to introduce to you some of the works that will be exhibited.

近一年多以来，刘家冬的创作集中在死亡、宗教、时间等一系列终极问题的思考上。他越发跳脱出艺术史既定的框架，而将自己的绘画看作是当下即时感官反应的结果。他的感官体验直接成为创作的动机，而又进一步延展和演进，以不加审查评价的方式将当下转瞬即逝的状态如实反映在作品上。用他自己的话来说：“绘画就是人在地上的时候，进行的一种综合体验活动，也可以是一种通往自我实现的努力活动，任何动机都可以促成一张画。”

For the recent year, Liu Jiadong’s practice focuses on thinking about the ultimate questions of death, religion, time, and so on. He jumps off more from the existing art history frame and treats his paintings to be the results of spontaneous sensory responses. His sensory responses become the creative motivation which spreads and revolves. He reflects the fleeting situations through an uncensored, non-judgmental way onto the works. In his own words, “Painting is the comprehensive experiencing activity that people do when they are on the ground. It can also be an effort towards self-realization. Any motivation can produce a painting.”

用石膏作为其雕塑创作主要的材料是欧鸣最早为人所知的特点。十七年来，随着创作的深入及阅历的积累，欧鸣的雕塑变得越来越“简单”。作品中没有复杂的造型，观众看不到任何意图，创作主体变得越来越透明。《埃施》系列是欧鸣最近期的创作。当作品在湿水之后，表面鲜亮的颜色就会消失，而在水分收干的过程中颜色又会慢慢恢复到作品上。很显然，艺术家企图营造一系列不断变化，生长的实体，让作品一直处于变化之中，并被大家直观的感觉到。犹如花朵一样，生长，开放，凋零……

Ou Ming’s most well-known feature is to use plaster as the main materials. For the seventeen years, as the practice deepens and the experience accumulates, Ou’s works become more and more “simple.” There are no complicated shapes. The viewers do not see any intentions; the creative subject becomes more and more transparent. “Aesch” is the recent work by Ou. When the work contacts with water, the vibrant colors on the surface disappear, and when the water slowly vaporizes, the colors come back onto the work. Obviously, the artist attempts to create a series of changing, growing entities. He puts the work always in changing and allows everyone to feel it. It is like flowers, grow, bloom, fall…

Zhang Yangbiao was born in Chengdu. Currently lives and works in Shanghai. He likes painting still-life, plays with film photography, and also paints in air-brushes. After moving from Chengdu to Shanghai, the change of his living pace and environment makes him rethink the existence of “human beings” themselves under the current fast-food information flow. His own pace is slower, precise, efficient, which is far away from his ideal life; his practice does not have a clear intention. Wants to play, wants to paint, then he paints. 

作为西岸艺术与设计博览会的重要版块，已连续举办五年的xiàn chǎng单元持续关注当代艺术作品在特定语境中的含义与价值，并逐渐成为了博览会中一道独特的声音与风景。艺术家欧鸣的最新作品将在xiàn chǎng单元中展出。

As the important plate of West Bund Art & Design, the section with five years of history, xiàn chǎng continuously pays attention to the meanings and values of the contemporary artworks under certain context. It gradually becomes a unique sound and science of the exposition. Artist Ou Ming’s newest work will be presented in the xiàn chǎng section.
