A pioneer of contemporary street art, Invader remains one of the most famous street artist in the world. French artist, born in 1969, his name comes from the pixel video game Space Invaders, which came out in 1978, and no one has ever seen his real face, as he always wears a mysterious mask or a mosaic later on. He was also inspired by the mosaic pixel art style of this game, giving it a nostalgic feel. He has been creating street art based on the theme of pixel games since 1996 and his work has appeared in over 30 countries worldwide to date.

Space Invader was among the first to question the idea of spray painting one’s name, while keeping the “invader” idea in his visual signature. Instead of a tag, he chose the iconic Space Invader image from the eponymous video game. He makes the Invader in pixels of mosaic tile and posts it all around. The artist "invades" cities worldwide, adroitly placing his tiled pieces in certain locations and awarding himself "points" based on the intricacy of the mural and the difficulty in placing it. "This," he said in 2011, "is the most addictive game I have ever played".

Space Invader posted his first mosaic, like a sentinel, in 1996. He then began massive deployment, with his mosaics swarming the world. Unsigned and enigmatic, they created buzz from London, to Los Angeles, to Tokyo, to New York, to Bangkok, and the list goes on. His work is a patchwork of mosaic tiles, known to the public for their bright colours and cute, playful patterns. He considers himself a public space hacker who spreads the mosaic virus, believing that museums and galleries are not something everyone has the opportunity and time to visit.
