Could you please elaborate on the material and your creative process? Roberto Miaz:In the past we tried oil paintings, drawings, varnishes and and colors of every kind of results but the meaningful stuff for us was to be indeterminate. We did not want to do something that was too certain. So this kind of out of focus, this kind of is not really perceptible image, was the quest of our technique or research of technique. So finally we though that the spray gun and spray paint with all the dots coming out could really describe what exactly what we were trying to do. So, no lines and no determination. Juts dots, layers of dots and the mixing of simple colors to achieve a shape that reminds you of something, but it is not so defined and certain.

Are all your “blurred images” referring to masterpieces by old masters? How do you make decisions on which historical paintings to choose to reinvent?
So like I told you before, we like to experiment all around us. We also did modern subjects from still life to contemporary images but "the Old Masters" in some way is more successful because people can relate more to this kind of picture. And finally also our experience is based much more on the Old Master. You have to understand that we grew up in Italy where every church is full of this kind of artworks. And they gave us maybe the strongest impact, much stronger than the stuff we saw in museums. We are quite fascinated about this kind of images, more than the modern stuff that is not quite as warm in some way. We like this warmer side of the Master's colors and compositions.

Many of your paintings play with scholarly/art historical messages that require certain degree of cultural or academic background knowledge to understand. How would you expect viewers from different cultural backgrounds to receive your paintings? In this case, we are not really thinking about the different cultures around the world. We are really doing what we like. And we are speaking about where we are coming from. So more or less, I can understand that some are more understandable than others, but it's not really our goal to let anyone understand something precisely. We're really trying to give just some sensations, emotions that we find around, whatever image it is. We are not really interested about the original artwork, or who did it. It's really a quick little moment of love that what we are looking for. And we try to translate the same sensation we had to other people. Finally, I think in terms of our idea of art, it's like, again, a "giving" stuff, like we are filters and are trying to give people something that is translated by us.
