Mias Brothers' solo show The Hazy Reality of The New World, video: Danysz gallery
How do you get that blurred effect that still allows you to get shapes and silhouettes? When you are during the creation process, is there a time when the dots make you a little bit dizzy?
Roberto Miaz：It's an interesting question because when you spray, you are 1 meter of distance from the canvas. It's not really clear what are you doing. That's why we work together because the other one is 5 meters behind. He can really see much better and tell the other if it's bent, if it's wrong, if it's too dark. Also myself or my brother, we spray a little bit and we step back 3 or 4 meters to see the paintings and come back and spray some more. We have to stand further, take some distance and check it, and go back to spray some more. So we have to move a lot. Normally, we have to spray a lot to obtain the shades. It's all about colors and the whites and blacks. It's very subtle. It's really interesting to work on. It's not a mechanical stuff. It's always a super organic, it's like a martial art in some way. You need to be sensible; you need to have energy.
Why did you choose this group of paintings to be presented to Chinese audience? What were your considerations? What do you expect the audience's reception to be?
I don't know. We have some global vision. I understand that the cultures are different, but we are not really dividing the world in sections. For us, people are people. We will always understand each other in some way. It was not a choice about China. It was a choice about what we really would loved to give to you. About what could be the most meaningful for this exhibition. It's about time, it's not about the location. Maybe next year it will be completely different. So for me, China or Italy or England or USA are the same public and not a different thing.
What are you working on at this moment? What's your plan this year and next year in terms of your art?
We don't have a really straight program. Sometimes we feel like changing a little bit in some way, like the subjects. So we try new stuff. Maybe difficult ones or bigger, or with different compositions. We try. If we like it, we go out and we propose this kind of artwork around the world. Or if we don't like it, we look around and try to understand how we feel about the moment and what kind of artwork we really like to do. It's mostly for ourselves and then for the others.
