This film is part two to Bitcoin Mining and Field Recordings of Ethnic Minorities. Today, bitcoin mines that take up about 70 percent of the world's computing power are distributed in Southern Asia, overlapping with what Willem van Schendel called the Zomia regions. This region is also abundant in hydropower, and boasts the highest concentration of hydroelectric power stations. In order to obtain cheaper sources of energy, bitcoin mines would migrate between Southeastern China, Western China's Xinjiang region, and Inner Mongolia as the season changes. Bitcoin mines could even be linked to Siberian exiles from the 1930s, where in the large-scale hydroelectric power stations that the latter were drafted to build are now occupied by bitcoin mines. This project is initiated by artist Liu Chuang and researcher Yang Beichen, and continues to conduct field research into these regions.
