自70年代以来，安妮特 · 梅莎洁（Annette Messager）一直是欧洲内外的当代艺术先锋力量。她的创作以异质性的形式和主题而著称，从个人到虚构，从社会性到普世性。其作品包罗日常材料，以组合、收集和戏剧性呈现为原则，所使用的各类媒介包括：建筑、档案、语言、物件、标本、素描、摄影、织物、刺绣、图像集、相册、雕塑以及沉浸式装置。梅莎洁在作品中探讨童话、神话和“二重身”等主题，常使用记忆和回忆作为灵感载体，以混合形式表现广泛的主题，兼具浪漫、滑稽、荒诞、虚幻等多样叙事传统的特色。

“于我而言，素描更像是一种流浪，走一条偏僻小径。整个创作过程完全在我一个人，只需一张纸、水和偶然的作用，因此我觉得更自由。封城期间，我一个人被困家中，就画了很多画。对我来说，它们有点像俳句。我是一个情绪多变的人，可以从一幅几乎是欢快的画，比如这一幅，小星星和舞者，跳跃到一幅......悲伤的画。我还执着于某类主题。例如这幅《你我》（Toi Moi）经常以不同的形式出现。此外我还会在画面中加入一些词。我真的很喜欢文字游戏，词的音律、声音，经过重复，像一片絮语。在我看来，一个词就是一幅素描。”

“我把这件作品唤作《同时同刻》（En même temps）。我想在相互矛盾的元素之间，即大幅素描和小小的暗色雕像之间建立起一种对话。这些雕像代表着我们人类，非常刻板、简单、挺直；相较之下，这些素描显得更灵动，比如这幅中画着某个身体的部分，与结构简单的小雕像截然相反。这也是为什么我把它命名为《同时同刻》，因为这些画和小雕像是同时制作的。这里大约有42件深色雕像和5幅狭长的素描。”

关于艺术家

安妮特 · 梅莎洁1943年出生于法国西北部加莱省的贝尔克（Berk-sur-Mer）。她现于巴黎南郊的马拉科夫（Malakoff）生活和创作。2016年安妮特 · 梅莎洁的所有创作获得日本高松宫殿下纪念世界文化奖(Praemium Imperiale Awards)的雕塑奖。她的作品于2005年获得第51届威尼斯双年展国家馆金狮奖。2022年2月，特拉维夫艺术博物馆将举办艺术家大型个展。近期为艺术家举办过展览的机构包括：巴黎贾科梅蒂基金会（Institut Giacometti，2018），西班牙瓦伦西亚现代艺术研究中心（IVAM，2018）以及罗马美第奇别墅（Villa Medicis，2017）。2015-2016年间，艺术家曾在法国加莱的现代艺术博物馆以及花边与时尚艺术城举办大型展览。2014年，梅莎洁分别在悉尼的澳大利亚当代艺术博物馆和德国杜塞尔多夫的K21当代艺术博物馆举办重要展览。此外，艺术家还曾在其它众多艺术机构举办个展，其中包括：墨西哥蒙特雷当代艺术博物馆（MARCO，2011）、伦敦海瓦德画廊（Hayward Gallery，2009）、芬兰埃斯波现代艺术博物馆（EMMA，2008）、首尔国立现代美术馆（MMCA，2008）以及东京森美术馆（Mori Art Museum，2008）。2007年，蓬皮杜艺术中心曾举办艺术家的大型回顾展。艺术家早期在美国的重要个展曾在以下艺术机构举办：纽约现代艺术博物馆的PS1分馆，旧金山现代艺术博物馆（1981），以及纽约现代艺术博物馆（MoMA）和洛杉矶郡艺术博物馆（LACMA）（1995）。

From the 1970s onward, Annette Messager has been a pioneering force in contemporary art in Europe and beyond. Her work has been known for its heterogeneity of form and subject matter, ranging from the personal to the fictional, the social to the universal. Through an embrace of everyday materials, and principles of assemblage, collection and theatrical display, her diverse media have included construction, documents, language, objects, taxidermy, drawings, photographs, fabric, embroidery, image collections, albums, sculpture and immersive installations. Messager has explored fairy tales, mythology and doppelgangers throughout her œuvre. Often using reminiscence and memory as a vehicle for inspiration, Messager's wide range of hybrid forms have an affinity with traditions as varied as the romantic, the grotesque, the absurd, the phantasmagoric.

Calcinated Babylon, is petrified, carbonized, attacked by animals: a duck, squirrel, rabbit, pigeon, kitten, raccoon, lizard, chicken, bird … Hands, fingers, emerge from certain structures, forming shadows that spin and shift on the walls.

For me, drawing is a kind of vagabondage. Close to poetry. I can go from an almost joyous drawing to a more tragic one – always affective, emotional.

It’s a dialogue between the petites effigies, very hieratic and upright, some forty little sculptures, that represent us humans… They seem to be observing us, while the highly organic, big elongated drawings play on our bodies, our organs, our fantasies. They seep in and circulate, seeming to disrupt the dignity of these petites effigies, at the same time.

For me drawings are much more like a kind of vagabondage, a byways or side street. In fact, I feel much freer because I am all on my own with just a sheet of paper, water, and chance. Actually, during lockdown, when I was stuck at home with no one there, I made a lot of drawings, and for me they’re a bit like haikus. I get a lot of mood swings and I can go from almost joyous drawing, like this one for example, this little star with the dancer, to a more… tragic drawing. And also I have a few obsessions. This one, “Toi Moi,” comes back fairly often in different forms, and often I add words. I really like playing with words, the song of words, the sound of words, the repetition of words that becomes like a litany; for me, a word is a drawing.

This is the piece I call “En même temps” (At the Same Time). I wanted to set up a dialogue between contradictory elements: that is to say, the large drawings and then the small dark effigies. In fact, these effigies represent us humans, very hieratic, very simple, very upright; and in contrast, the drawings are very organic. They are there with bits of the inside of our bodies, things that are really the opposite of these little, very simple structures. And that’s why I called them “En même temps” because I made these drawings and these petites effigies at the same time so they are titled “En même temps”. There are about forty-two dark structures and five very elongated narrow drawings.

About the artist

Annette Messager was born in Berk-sur-Mer in 1943. She lives and works in Malakoff, just south of Paris. Messager was awarded the Praemium Imperiale for sculpture in 2016. She won the Golden Lion for best national pavilion at the 51st Venice Biennale in 2005. The Tel Aviv Museum of Art will present a major exhibition of her work in February 2022. Recently she has exhibited at the Institut Giacometti in Paris (2018), the Institut Valencià Art Modern (IVAM) in Spain (2018), and the Villa Medici in Rome (2017). In France, an important exhibition was put in at the Musée des Beaux-Arts and at the Cité de la Dentelle et de la Mode in Calais, in 2015–16. In 2014 Messager had major exhibitions at the Museum of Contemporary Art MCA, Sydney, and at K21 in Düsseldorf. Earlier solo shows have been exhibited at the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo in Monterrey (MARCO), Mexico (2011); the Hayward Gallery in London (2009); the Espoo Museum of Modern Art (EMMA), Finland (2008); the National Museum of Contemporary Art, Seoul, South Korea (2008); and the Mori Art Museum in Tokyo (2008). A major retrospective of her work was organized by the Centre Pompidou, Paris, in 2007. Important early solo exhibitions in the U.S. were held at PS1, New York and San Francisco MoMA (1981), and at MoMA and LACMA (1995).
