"Performing Objects: Practices of the Everyday" a group exhibition opened at Hua International Beijing on August 27th, 2021 and will be on view until November 13th, 2021.On the opening day, performersFENG Faren, LIU Zifeng, WANG Zhe, WANG Mengfan collaborated on a performance of Dança dos Leques by artist Nadja Abt.
This exhibition features object-oriented art, performance and dance from post-minimalism to the present. The exhibition is motivated by how the recent global changes have transformed our sense of the "art of the everyday" while establishing interconnections between distinctive art practices.
The dança dos leques is a dance improvisation based on a research about the history of Ausdruckstanz (expressive dance) and dance notations, as from Mary Wigman and Rudolf von Laban. For each colour and symbol the performers memorize their indivdual movement. Alternately, one performer holds up a colour and the other dance their choreography. One “dance-colour-episode” lasts 1-3min approximately. The performance is accompanied by a musician who also change the rhythm after every colour change. As the rhythm increases to a certain point, it was stopped, and the performance ends.
Under the rules of performance choreography, Fan Dance has improvisation elements. At the same time, it is carefully prepared that each dancer choreographed their own dance in rehearsal, preparing and memorizing their movements in advance based on their perception of the fan's work. Here, the presupposition of the object inspires the action of man, while the performance of man awakens the existence of the object. The elements of fans, the occasional performance and the seemingly nontechnical movements are just a kind of "practices of the everyday". Performance is no longer exclusive to artists or professional dancers, it is equal, ordinary, and can be restored to everything, to the ordinary, to the street, to everyone.
