GREEN GO HOME is a collaborative project by Tomas Vu and Rirkrit Tiravanija.
The story of “Green Go Home” is part myth and part folklore. It is also partially a misunderstanding, and, to some degree, an invention of the imagination. Nonetheless, it makes for a compelling story. The term gringo—commonly used in Latin America to describe a Western foreigner—has been assumed by many to have etymologically originated with the phrase “Green go home!” One story holds that during the Mexican-American War, American troops invaded and overwhelmed their opposition. At this time, according to legend, the American uniform frequently included green coats. Hence “Green go home!” The grid holds up the statement and reinforces the layers of interpretation, readings, and misunderstandings. “Green Go Home” is meant to be a wall of resisters, and of resistance.

Born in Saigon, Vietnam, lives and works in New York.
Tomas Vu creates fantastical scenes that represent cycles of destruction, collapse and rebirth by layering screen printing, painting and laser-sculpted images on top of each other. Inspired and presented primarily by personal memories of growing up in wartime Vietnam, the images depict the epic conflict between man and machine, nature and technology, and the work is composed of layers of open Spaces that blur the boundaries between imagination and memory. Vu has exhibited around the world and held exhibitions in his own museums in Japan, Italy, China and Vietnam, including: Centro Colombo Americano, Bogota (2012) and The Central Academy of Fine Arts Museum (Beijing)(2015); Vu is also the curator of Green Go Home, a touring group exhibition project called DRAW and a continuing collaboration with more than 100 artists.
Xindi Li
Xindi Li (b. 1996) lives and works in Beijing. Li studied sculpture in The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. After completed his study in 2018, Li returned to his home Beijing and started working as a full-time exhibition designer and art administrator while continuing his individual artistic practice.
Following the paths of pivotal artists who work in the realm of Institutional Critique, such as Hans Haacke and Andrea Fraser, Xindi Li’s installation works pose questions and critically comments on the nature of art institutions and their role in producing culture and defining aesthetics in contemporary society with unexpected parody and non-sequitur humor. Aside from his individual art practice, Li has also worked in private and public art museums professionally; these professional experiences have significantly contributed to his understanding of the functioning of art institutions and initiated his constant introspective examining of the norms within the institutional system. In the artist’s words, the inner conflict created by the dual identity (being an employee and a mindful critic of the established system) does not affect his artistic practice significantly but it is the homology embedded in the two seemingly opposite roles that intrigues him the most.
