Francesco Fioretto
topic: Is the Divine Comedy the first case of virtual reality?
Abstract:The Divine Comedy is one of the first and greatest cases of narrative allegory in the history of world literature that crosses fiction and history while using words and figurative representations. The pattern of Dante within the seven deadly sins and from the Inferno to the Paradise, represents the evolution of the concept of Beauty. How can this process be considered as relevant? It shows us how through representative arts virtual reality is mainly the purpose of aligning a collective intelligence to simplified and unique mean of display. Nonetheless, as philosophers as Berkeley and artists like Mondrian and other surrealists realized, nothing that looks real is truly real. This is what is relevant to the comprehension of the Universe, as an experience of totality that discloses a space of personal elaboration and, at the same time, enables a creative space leading toward a creative Weltanschauung.
Francesco Fioretto

Filippo Fabrocini
The talk will argue that salvation, as narrated by Dante in his Divine Comedy, holds an impressive parallel with the process of individuation as defined by Carl Jung. I will outline three parallels in Dante’s works, one from each book in the trilogy, by using hints coming from Jung. First, in The Inferno, Dante’s journey starts with the recognition of his personal split, with the end of his journey in the Hell appearing as an illustration of a process Jung calls regression. Next, in Purgatorio, the souls that populate this middle realm reveal Dante’s recognition of his personal unconscious, as described by Jung. Finally, when Dante reaches the Empyrean, the highest point in Paradiso, by loosing the use of language, his split self is metaphorically deconstructed in the presence of God. Healing arrives as the conclusion of Dante’s journey. In the same fashion, we are building AI, as an obscure mirror of ourselves, a projection of our ego. AI is not always helping, as a vast literature is starting to show. The more AI is been used by humans, the more the problems exacerbate. What is the purpose of AI if it fails to serve even the slightest social provisions? We need to heal AI from our own anthropocentric projections.
