日复升——小林敬生作品展”于2021年9月25日在亚洲艺术中心(上海)开幕。


随着近些年对于鲁迅在上海所倡导的中国新兴木刻运动的再认知,版画的艺术价值和内涵被深度挖掘。2021年9月25日,鲁迅诞辰140周年之际,亚洲艺术中心(上海)适时推出的小林敬生木口木刻版画作品展,除了是对鲁迅和木刻版画的巧妙回应,也提供公众对版画一个更为直观接触和了解的机会。

此次展览是日本木口木刻版画领域最具影响力的艺术家小林敬生在上海举办的首次个展,也是继2019年生逢其时——小林敬生&陈琦作品展”之后再次于中国举办的展览。小林敬生毕生都在钻研木口木刻,他完整地继承了木口木刻的技法传统,同时又具有强烈的当代观念和现代性的思考,在他的作品中,现实与非现实、写实与抽象、古典与现代被巧妙地融为一体。展览展出艺术家小林敬生自上世纪八十年代末至今的木口木刻作品二十余件,在木口木刻的世界中呈现小林敬生生命的横截面。

展览题为“日复升”是小林敬生对人类文明于当下社会现实所笼罩的阴霾及战胜困难,与自然和谐共处的愿景;是人类正在经历新冠疫情、自然灾害、种族主义的一次深刻思索;是潮起潮落,生态兴衰,对世间轮回、灵魂觉醒与精神解放的承载。诚如艺术家小林敬生所言:“在由世上无数的生灵交织成的庞大的生态系统中,人类只占其中的一小部分。那种认为人类是众生之首的想法,实为虚妄的傲慢。人类端赖挥汗劳作,才能换回自己的口粮。我专心雕刻木板,就如同耕作土地一般。这种一以贯之的劳作姿态,便是我奉献给现代社会的赠言。”

作为日本木口木刻版画领域最具影响力的艺术家,小林敬生1944年生于日本岛根县,是日本版画协会理事长、多摩美术大学名誉教授,与中林忠良、野田哲也并称日本最具代表性的版画界实力巨匠。小林敬生的作品,从关注社会现实的波澜激荡,揭示生存环境的变异,逐渐将重心放在对未来的乐观设想的描绘,眼神由犀利转为慈祥,画面情态也由激越转为祥和,展现的是对地球众“生”和睦共栖的希冀。

本次展览特别呈现由小林敬生、酒井忠康、建畠哲合著的诗画集。其中日本现代文学家建畠哲的六首诗歌与小林敬生的六幅木口木刻作品互为表里、相得益彰,生动诠释人与自然和谐共生的思辨。

在黑暗的天空里浮悬


黑鸟圆瞪着眼

裸露的肉体将身影深潜

没有音乐的夜,混沌与紊乱


管道和圆球和不明屋宇

被掩埋于根茎叶的交错纠缠

虚伪的花丛绽放着谎言

邪恶精气弥漫于地面


此处或许是天的港湾

无音乐之夜的、危险港湾

悬浮于天的、没有码头的禁忌的港湾

Earth


The origin is darkness

Once punctured, light would emanate from within

Lights gather to take the form of a tempestuous land

Levitating in the dark skies


The black bird stareswith its round eyes

Concealing its exposed flesh

A night without music, chaotic and tumultuous


Pipelines and spheres and unknown houses

Buried within woven roots, stems and leaves

Deceptive bushes blossom with lies

A malicious spirit veils and swallows the ground


Here could lie the harbor of heavens

A harbor of danger and without nights of music

A harbor that levitates in the sky and without a pier

海市蜃楼般朦胧

远方那相连的城市剪影

向着天空奋力挣扎

是草原上的树林


是老树抵抗死亡的最后舞姿

还是那响彻睥睨荒海白涛的

鬼魅般黑色巨树顶冠的怒吟


四亿年前的鱼在天上淡淡地显形

就像远处城市的楼影

它是不在此处与此刻的幻象

反反复复地忽现忽隐


注视着这并非此处的某处

和并非此时的某时的

是并非我自己的某个生灵……

Tree I


The silhouette of cities hover in the distance

Hazy like a mirage

As forests on the plains

Struggle to reach the sky


Is it the final dance as the old tree fights back death

Or the angry whispers of the giant ghost-like black trees

That roared through the sounds of crashing waves


Faint apparitions of 400 million-year-old fish have appeared in the sky

Just like shadows of cities in the distance

It is a mirage that exists neither here nor at this moment

It disappears then reappears, on repeat

 

Staring at somewhere that is not here,

And at a time that is not now

Is a soul that is not I…

树,曾经是精气充盈的混沌大观

曾经是家屋街道城市,也是乐园

所有生灵群栖此间

那时的大地上,没有争端和相残


但在某一天

所有居民都落脚地面

看树上还开放着花朵一如从前

地面上则自此争斗不断


而那耽乐的裸妇于今也依然隐身于树干

盘根错节的官能被隔断

如同禁忌一般


树是诱惑我们的陷阱

是秘藏着情爱的危险乐园

哦、憧憬美丽的花朵们的恶之欲念……

Trees, once a thriving magnificent sight of utter chaos

Were once houses, streets, cities, and paradise

Where all souls rested

There were no feuds or conflicts on earth then


But one day

As all residents’ feet were planted on the ground

They watched as trees bloomed once again

And conflicts on earth have never since ceased

 

And that gleeful nude woman has since been hiding within the tree trunks

Those inter woven sensory organs have been severed

As if it were a taboo

 

Trees are a trap that lure us

A forbidden paradise of hidden love and affection

Oh, the evil desires of flowers that crave beauty so…

那一天,森林突然不见了去向

都以为它是去了天上

远方云朵下,那林木的淡淡身影

想来是还残存在地面的树木幻象


都说森林曾经将都市吞噬

又为何消失于大地之上

众多议论纷纷攘攘

却无人能给出确定的主张


然而今天!瘴气弥漫的密林之舟登场

哦,别问为何会这样

那密林之舟就这样出现在破败都市的天空之上


被树木掩埋的塔、偷窥的年轻人、蹲着的姑娘

载着大地上曾经的存在

天上的森林如今化身为密林方舟

迷失了归去的方向

Boat


The forest suddenly vanished without a trace on that day

It looked like the forest had gone up to the skies

The faint shadows of trees tucked underneath clouds in the distance

But it turned out to be phantoms of trees that once were

 

If the forest had once engulfed a city

Then why did it vanish from the face of the earth

As speculations and theories surface

No one had a definitive answer

 

Yet today! The raft of dense forests riding an air of miasma has arrived

Oh, do not ask how it transpired

The raft of dense forests appears in the skies of a city in ruins

 

The tower that has been buried under trees, the young voyeur, and the girl crouching down

They carry the existence that once was on earth

Forests in the skies have now transformed to become the raft of dense forests

Unable to find its way back

If roots were up in the heavens

The reality would have been doubted

Justice would be upturned

If roots were up in the heavens

 

If roots were in the ground now

The beauty of danger would be demolished

The enigma would be forgotten

Had the roots been deep beneath the ground

 

Look

Those endless roots that fall from the heavens have concealed the evil eye

Shaking, trembling, tangled, distorted

 

Yes, reality has withered, justice has been forgotten

The beauty of danger is in full bloom, and the enigma lives on

The roots are now making the mistake of growing up in the heavens

Here lies the reason

龟裂的宇宙之卵悬浮在昏暗的星空之间

波涛起伏、森林浩瀚

毒花浅染五彩

这承载着地上乐园记忆的龟裂宇宙之卵


波涛有一双窥视的巨眼

回看观者的女人之眼

据说是被逐出昔日乐园的夏娃的视线

我们观看,也被回看


那或许是传说中曾经统辖密林的

年轻亚马逊族之眼

再度君临这龟裂的破败星球的女人的视线


亚玛利亚、阿玛利亚、奥利皮亚……

不畏惧任何圣名的女人

从乐园记忆的彼方回看我们的,那一双巨眼

Paradise

 

The ruptured embryo of the universe floats amongst dimmed stars

Waves roll and crash, the green of the forests

Poisonous flowers are embellished with soft hues

This is the ruptured embryo of the universe carrying memories of paradise on earth


A large set of eyes peek out from beyond the crashing waves

The eyes of a woman who looks back at the viewer

It is said to be Eve, who was banished from paradise

We watch and are watched

 

Those could be the eyes of the young Amazonians

Who once ruled the forests

And they have again appeared in the sight ofthe woman on this ruptured planet in ruins

 

Amaria, Amaliyah, Oripiya…

The woman who shan’t be afraid of holy names

Whose large eyes watched us from across the memories of paradise

Asia Art Center is honored to announce that “Sunrises Again - Artworks by Keisei Kobayashi” is open from September 25 until December 5, 2021. This is the first solo exhibition for Japanese artist Keisei Kobayashi in Shanghai, also the second exhibition of the artist held in China by Asia Art Center, following “Right Place Right Time - Artworks by Keisei Kobayashi & Chen Qi” (Beijing) in 2019. Keisei Kobayashi has devoted his lifetime perfecting his wood engraving craftsmanship. He fully inherited the technical traditions of wood engraving meanwhile manifesting his contemporary and modern mindset. In his artworks, reality and unreality, realism and abstraction, classic and modern are skillfully integrated. The exhibition will display more than twenty wood engraving artworks by Keisei Kobayashi from the late 1980s to present, presenting the cross section of Kobayashi's life in the world of wood engraving.

The exhibition entitled "Sunrises Again" features artist Keisei Kobayashi's vision of how human civilization can overcome difficulties and live in harmony with nature in the haze of current social reality, also as a profound reflection of ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, natural disasters, and racism. It is a bearing of ecological rise and fall, soul awakening and spiritual liberation. As the artist Keisei Kobayashi has said: “Human beings make up only a small portion of the vast ecosystem composed by countless creatures, and the idea of humans being the head of all living beings shows the arrogance deep in us, which is our illusion. We live on grain which we can get only by our toil and sweat left onthe farm, that is why I’ve been working on wood engraving with all my attention just as people farm the land at the beginning. With the consistent work and humble attitude that I can give the modern society a gift of dedication.”

As the most influential artist in the field of wood engraving in Japan, Keisei Kobayashi was born in Shimane Prefecture, Japan in 1944. He is the chairman of the Japan Printmaking Association and an honorary professor at Tama Art University. Together with Nakabayashi Tadayoshi and Tetsuya Noda, he is also known as one of the most representative masters in the printmaking industry in Japan. From concerns in the vicissitudes of social reality to exposing the shifts in our surrounding environment, Kobayashi’s work has been gradually leaning toward optimistic depictions of the future; his incisiveness has softened, and hisonce aggressive imageries have embraced a gentle touch in an effort to convey his wishes for all “beings”(sheng) to live in harmony.

This exhibition will also feature a collection of poems and paintings co-authored by Keisei Kobayashi, Sakai Tadayasu, and Tatehata Akira. Those six poems composed by Japanese modern writer Tatehata Akira and other six wood engraving artworks by Keisei Kobayashi complement each other, vividly interpreting the harmonious coexistence of human beings and nature.

Keisei Kobayashi was born in Shimane prefecture, Japan in 1944. Kobayashi worked as a professor at Tama Art University since 1997. Afterwards, he has been appointed as an honorary professor since 2014. Kobayashi is currently the President of the Japan Print Association. Together with Nakabayashi Tadayoshi and Noda Tetsuya, they are also known as the most representative masters in the print industry in Japan.
