杜梦堂很高兴与您分享由央视制作的非遗文化纪录片「茉莉花开」之《寻者漆艺》，讲述了以大漆为创作媒介的法国艺术家文森·漆(Vincent Cazeneuve)如何在中国重庆大山里隐居创作、学习采漆，以及在四川大凉山寻访彝族漆器传人的故事。

他在表现的是他眼睛里的中国，中国的传统技艺。这个技艺在他的手里面活了，非物质文化遗产活化。活化，我觉得文森探索出一条路，现代艺术家的思想，但是把古代的技艺给他植根于现代生活。而他找到新的土壤，虽然是一个古老的种子，开出新花来，而这就是创新。

DUMONTEIL is delighted to share with you the story of Vincent Cazeneuve, a French artist who uses lacquer as hismedium of creation, how he lives and works in the mountains of Chongqing, China, and how he sought out Yi lacquerware masters in the Daliang Mountains of Sichuan province, in the documentary "Jasmine Blossoms" produced by CCTV.

What he presents is China in his eyes, the traditional skills of China. He brings life to this skill(lacquer), the renaissance of intangible cultural heritage. Vincent has explored a path — the idea of a modern artist, but rooting the ancient skills in modern life. And he finds new soil for an old seed to bloom into a new flower. And that is what we call innovation.

从2007年文森第一次来中国旅行起，他就不断往返于中法两国之间，因为这里有他心心念念的大漆。从2009年起，他大部分时间都住在重庆的大山里，为创作做着各种研究和实验。

对于艺术创作，文森有着自己的坚持：

每个人都能在自己的领域发挥创造力，但走上创作道路却又是另一回事，让人在怀疑与欣喜之间徘徊，用一生追寻遥不可及的理想。就像吉尔·德勒兹说的，‘艺术是一种与时间的对抗，一种与死亡的对抗’。

Since Cazeneuve's first trip to China in 2007, he has been constantly travelling between China and France, where he has his heart set on lacquer. Since 2009, he has spent most of his time living in the mountains of Chongqing, doing all kinds of research and experimentation for his creations.

Cazeneuve has his persistence in art creation. He believes that

Everyone is creative in his or her own field, but it is another thing to embark on the path of creation between the precipices of doubt and exaltation. To give one's life in search of an unattainable ideal, as Deleuze said, ‘Art is an act of resistance to time, an act of resistance to death’.

文森·漆就是这样一个追梦人。几年前，文森在重庆中国三峡博物馆参观了一个关于少数民族的展览，在介绍彝族的部分有一件祭祀皮铠甲，其美丽令人折服。沉迷其中的文森做了很多研究和尝试，虽然都不成功。

在筹备今年6月个展“叙述”的过程中，文森和家人一起来到四川大凉山，我国最大的彝族聚居区，有幸见到了白石夫机，他是彝族皮铠甲仅剩的几位传人之一。在他的指点下，文森了解了制作皮胎的方法。这次学习之旅为他筹备个展创作提供了新的灵感。

Vincent Cazeneuve is such a dream chaser. A few years ago, the artist visited an exhibition on ethnic minorities at the China Three Gorges Museum in Chongqing. In the section on the Yi people, there was a piece of ceremonial leather armour that caught his eye. Fascinated by it, Cazeneuve did a lot of research and experimentation, though none of it was successful.

In preparation for his solo exhibition 'Récits' in June this year, the artist travelled with his family to Daliang Mountain in Sichuan, the largest concentration of the Yi people in China, and had the pleasure of meeting Bai Shi Fuji, one of the few remaining masters of the Yi leather armour. Under his guidance, Cazeneuve learned how to process leather and shape leather body. This learning trip provided him with new inspiration to prepare for his solo exhibition.

漆农说：“百里千刀一斤漆”，热衷于追根溯源的文森与漆农杨老四相识相交。在他看来，这些漆农理应成为他个展的一部分。于是，在文森的个展上多了一件由漆树干、漆农工具和服装组成的“装置”。

但这对文森来说还是不够，他开始尝试自己割漆，亲自体会大漆的生命力。他认为，随着新技术的飞速发展，我们离材料越来越远。生活中的大多数日常物件都非常复杂，以至于我们无从得知它们是如何制造的、又由哪些材料构成。而他需要每天与材料的转化建立联系，在手中感受这种转化。为此，文森还学习了织布、竹编、拓印等各种技术并把它们运用到自己的创作中。

我的灵感有时来自日常物件，有时来自时间在古董上留下的锈迹，一面旧墙，一张动物的皮子。灵感真的可以来自任何地方，当灵感来临时，只要有一颗开放的心就足够了。

A lacquer harvester often says: "A hundred miles and a thousand cuts for a catty of lacquer". In the artist's view, these lacquer harvesters deserve to be part of his solo exhibition. As a result, an 'installation' of a dried lacquer trunk, lacquer harvester's tools and clothes were added to the exhibition.

But this was not enough for Cazeneuve, who began to experiment with harvesting lacquer himself. He believes that with the rapid development of new technologies, we are moving further away from materials. Most daily objects are so complex that we have no way of knowing how they are made and what materials they are made of. And he needs to make a daily connection with the transformation of materials, to feel this transformation in his hands. To do this, the artist has learned various techniques such as traditional weaving, bamboo weaving and topiary and uses them in his own creations.

"My inspiration could come from everyday objects, or the patina that time leaves on antiques, or an old wall, or the skin of an animal. Really inspiration can come from anywhere you just have to be open-minded when it comes."

ABOUT THE ARTIST

文森·漆（1977年出生），原名Vincent Cazeneuve，是一名专注于当代大漆创作的法国艺术家。在法国完成学业后，他曾创立工作室专注于西方与亚洲漆器的修复工作，后于2009年移居中国重庆，一心钻研漆艺，以及与其创作相关的中国传统文化和手工技艺。

文森·漆用看似简约实则繁复的艺术语言对东西方文化兼容并蓄，不懈探索将其他材料融入大漆创作的可能性，如旧米袋、麻绳、竹子、皮革等。同时，他还尝试汲取版画、浮雕、拼贴等其他艺术形式，以及梭织、竹编等传统工艺，使其作品拥有丰富的层次和触感。

文森·漆的作品曾在国内外艺术机构广泛展出，其中包括成都许燎源现代设计艺术博物馆(2021)，北京清华大学美术学院(2020)，云南省博物馆(2019)，四川美术学院美术馆(2019)，法国巴黎中国文化中心(2017)，法国勒韦艺术与工艺学院(Revel IMARA，2013)，上海当代艺术双年展(2010)等。同时，文森的作品已被纳入法国、意大利、瑞士、美国和中国等地的私人收藏。

Vincent Cazeneuve (b.1977), also known as 文森·漆, is a French artist using Chinese lacquer as his primary medium of creation. After completing his studies in France, he created a studio specializing in the restoration of Western and Asian lacquerware before moving to Chongqing, China, in 2009 to decipher the secret of lacquer and traditional Chinese culture artisanal techniques associated with his work.

He gradually developed his narratives and aesthetics from both occidental and oriental influences with his deceptively simple and yet complex language while relentlessly exploring non-traditional supports such as old rice bags, jute ropes, bamboo, and leather. He also tries to draw on other art forms such as lithography, relief carving, collage, and traditional crafts such as cloth and bamboo weaving, lending his work rich layers and tactile feelings.

Vincent Cazeneuve’s work has been widely exhibited in art institutions in China and abroad, including XLY MoMA, Chengdu (2021), the Academy of Arts and Design of Tsinghua University, Beijing (2020), Yunnan Provincial Museum (2019), Art Museum of Sichuan Fine Arts Institute (2019), Chinese Cultural Center, Paris, France (2017), Revel IMARA, France (2013), Shanghai Biennale of Contemporary Art ( 2010), etc. His work has also been included in private collections in France, Italy, Switzerland, the United States, and China.
