When I first came to M50 in 2012, the first thing I saw was the work of artist Qiu Shengxian. I was deeply impressed by the unique visual impact of his work and the subtle symbols hidden in each work. As a result, a door in my heart was suddenly opened, and after that I started to collect art. Because of the serendipity, I became more and more familiar with Mr. Qiu, and now I can say that I have finally fulfilled my long-cherished wish to hold this exhibition with artists.
Chinese totem culture has a long history. Those symbols and illustrations carry narratives and spiritual inheritance through time. The work of artist Qiu Shengxian's are consistently interspersed with his unique "artistic totem", such as "mother and child elements" and "hundred family surnames" which are painted with brushes, and have distinctive features. As Dr. Cui Zhijin, associate professor in Southeast University said, "the elements in Qiu Shengxian's works have a strong visual impact, demonstrating the meaning of universal fraternity and the truth of Chinese nation’s true love. "
I hope this exhibition will bring you harvest and touch. Let us feel the source of our spirit together, so that our spirit can rise up to a higher level.
