作为一个以摄影及录像为媒介的当代艺术家，董文胜的创作向来在两者之间自如穿梭，作品既具有基于中国传统文化元素的个人美学特征，同时又弥漫着诗意而隐喻的影像语言。他的“后花园”、“静室”、“石头”、“刺青”、“骷髅”等系列作品广为人知，东方式的神秘感孤独感甚至荒诞感始终缭绕其中，从而引领观众进入传统与现实交集，存在与虚无并置的影像空间，浸淫在艺术家营造的独特的美学氛围之中。（节选自夏季风文章）

Dong Wensheng’s creations often alternate between the mediums of photography and video. The works possess individual aesthetic traits marked by elements of Chinese traditional culture, yet are also imbued with a poetic and oblique cinematic language. Many of his series, such as Backyard, Stone, Quiet Room, Tattoo and Skeleton, are well known, They are woven with an Oriental sense of mystery , solitude and even absurdity, which they use to draw the audience into a cinematic space that combines tradition and reality, existence and nothingness, steeping them in a unique aesthetic atmosphere of the artist’s creation.

董文胜是一个以摄影及录像为创作媒介的当代艺术家,作品具有成熟的基于中国传统美学的个人美学特征，同时具有充满隐喻的影像语言。他最早的“后花园”系列，展示在幽静的园林中，在朦胧夜色的笼罩下，赤身裸体抱成一团的打斗人影。这些影像不仅制造出一种悬念与紧张，也同时营造出一种奇特的文化意象，颠覆、推翻了人们对于中国传统文化与历史的浪漫、优雅的想象，以纠缠的暴力意象给出了有关缠绵阴柔的江南文化的新的想象内容与空间....(节选自顾铮文章)

Dong Wensheng is a contemporary artist who uses photography and video as the creative medium, and his works have mature personal aesthetic characteristics based on traditional Chinese aesthetics, while having a metaphorical image language. His earliest series of "Back Gardens" is displayed in a secluded garden, naked and huddled in a ball of fighting figures under the shroud of hazy night. These images not only create a kind of suspense and tension, but also create a strange cultural image, subverting and overthrowing people's romantic and elegant imagination of traditional Chinese culture and history, and giving a new imaginary content and space about Jiangnan culture with entangled violent images....

ABOUT ARTIST

艺术家董文胜

董文胜，1970年出生于江苏赣榆，毕业于江苏理工学院工美系，他多年来一直坚持以影像为语言进行艺术创作，作品曾展出于中国美术馆、上海美术馆、南京艺术学院美术馆、美国纽约P.S.1当代艺术中心、法国蓬比杜艺术中心、西班牙瓦伦西亚现代艺术博物馆、巴西圣保罗当代美术馆、智利当代美术馆、澳大利亚白兔美术馆等各大机构。

目前生活在江苏常州。江苏理工学院艺术学院兼职教授、常州画派研究所研究员。

董文胜的作品具有成熟的基于中国传统文化元素的个人美学特征。他用视觉论述的方式，以跨越文化疆界的、充满隐喻的影像语言在摄影与录像之间自如穿梭，他的作品中始终缭绕着东方的神秘感、孤独感，引领观众进入传统与现实交集，存在与虚无并置的影像空间。
