《斗地主》延续了王兴伟以图像挑衅观看的创作手法。绘画中,地主和农民聚在一处,玩起了常被称为“斗地主”的扑克游戏。塑造绘画的体积、空间、色彩时,他又将诸多绘画大师的手法并行融汇,顺随着图像的设置逻辑,这加深了观看者观看时难以名状的体验。
Fight the Landlord is a continuation of Wang Xingwei’s
creative technique of pictorial provocations on the act of viewing. In the
painting, a landlord and farmers come together to play a card game commonly
known as “fight the landlord”. When forming the volumes, spaces and colors of
the painting, he employed the techniques of many different painting masters in
parallel and in combination. This heightens the viewer’s inexplicable
experience within the graphic logic he has devised.

王兴伟1969年生于中国沈阳,目前工作、生活在北京。他在沈阳大学师范学院接受了早期的绘画训练。他的早期作品包含一些与西方艺术史经典的对话,和对中国本土艺术环境的忧虑和批评;在创作中期他开始形成一种独特的风格,并继续探索绘画中的基础问题,包括有意识的转换和图像的重复。
王兴伟对那些晦涩、不相干、荒诞、庸俗、滑稽的场景尤为感兴趣。他编排的场景经常出人意料、不着边际,但又有着迷人的超现实感。王兴伟作品中的主题多元,并在不同绘画风格中进行游刃有余的切换。
王兴伟的作品在国内外广泛展出,主要个展包括2022年在上海当代艺术博物馆举办的个展“王兴伟在上海2002-2008”,2019年同时在麦勒画廊北京798空间和草场地空间举办的双个展“面相之谜”和“沈阳之夜”,由麦勒画廊主办、站台中国当代艺术机构协办的“荣与耻”(2016);在北京尤伦斯当代艺术中心举办的大型个人展览“王兴伟”(2013);于2011年及2012年分别在麦勒画廊北京部和卢森部举办的同名个展“王兴伟”;于2007年在麦勒画廊北京举办的个展“王兴伟——大划船”等;重要群展包括:“SNAPSHOT”,麦勒画廊北京-卢森,中国北京(2021);“绝地通天”,上海chi

Wang Xingwei (b. 1969 in Shenyang, China) currently
lives and works in Beijing. He received his formative painting training at
Normal School of Shenyang University. His early work includes dialogues with
classics of Western art history, and skepticism and criticism of the local
Chinese art scene. After entering the middle of his artistic career, he has
gradually developed a unique style, and continues the exploration of the basic
issues of painting, including the conscious transmission and the repetition of
images.
Wang Xingwei often depicts scenes that are ambiguous,
irrelevant, absurd, vulgar, scandalous and laughable. His plots are often
unexpected, far-fetched, and yet charmingly surreal. Perhaps it is better to
interpret the diverse themes of Wang Xingwei’s works, and his agile pivoting
between a wide variety of painting styles, from within a wider context.
Wang Xingwei has been widely
exhibited in China and abroad. Recent solo shows include Wang Xingwei in Shanghai 2002-2008 at Power Station of Art, Shanghai (2022); dual solo exhibitions The Code of Physiognomy and Shenyang Night held respectively at
Galerie Urs Meile Beijing’s 798 space and Caochangdi Space (2019); Honor
and Disgrace, Organized by Galerie Urs Meile, Beijing-Lucerne, and
supported by Platform China (2016); the large retrospective Wang Xingwei, UCCA Center for Contemporary
Art, Beijing, China (2013); Wang Xingwei, at Galerie Urs Meile Beijing in 2011 and Lucerne in 2012; and Wang Xingwei – Large Rowboat, Galerie Urs
