The World’s Number One SportCurator : 张煜航 Yuhang ZhangOpening : 09.10 Sat. 16:00Building E03, Qixing East Street798 Art District, Chaoyang District, Beijing‘以怎样的姿态直面或者拒斥某物的存在‘,如Isabelle Stengers所说,是当代治理术的核心实践。当然,影像装置《当第一运动遇见巨大的不可知物》中归化球员的‘他者性’并非与当代生命政治或者西方主导的文明社会不可调和的‘流放者’或是像巴特比那样的‘不可化约’的愚者,反而是各种压迫性的政治系统中的既受到侵犯,又在新自由主义系统中积极为自身生存谋求空间,以舒适和不舒适为尺度的‘不适者‘。作品通过成影像的拼贴和再创造, 通过‘卑劣’的小‘不适者‘身份政治的表演与新自由主义政治机制的共谋,直接指向了当代政治机制本身的‘装配’属性,而李泽易也乐于戏仿或者模拟整个系统的运作方式。归化球员在场或缺席经历的一系列表演性采访,官僚主义的发言,电子游戏中的移情,都分析式的切分到整个政治‘装配’的不同节点上。在这里,‘人’转化成了整个装配控制论的不同生产节点,这些节点要做的只是去保证上方的灯条适时的闪烁。而其结果是什么,仿佛以及不再重要,系统围绕着幽深的空洞,循环往复。在李泽易的影像实践中,似乎缺少了Stengers ,在同样的洞见下,由狡诈的普世自由转向cosmos的雄心壮志。但在‘不适者‘的偏狭中,无论是怎样的自我技术,似乎都通向了政治神学中那终极关怀的失落-伊甸园大门紧闭,政治机器的轰鸣声超不过其外壳,天使歌颂的荣耀从不曾在现世有回音。Zeyi Li: The World’s Number One Sport'In what way to address or reject the presence of something', as Isabelle Stengers puts it, is the essential practice of contemporary governmentality. Surely, the naturalized players in the video installation ‘‘The World’s Number One Sport Runs Into the Great Unknowable’’ are not 'exiles' irreconcilable with the biopolitical space or an 'irreducible' fool like Bartleby. Rather, they are the 'unfits' who are constantly measuring their ‘comfort ‘or ‘discomfort’ and who are both violated in various oppressive institutions and actively seeking space for their own survival in a neoliberal system, measured in terms of comfort and discomfort.
Through the collage and re-allocation of images, ‘‘The World’s Number One Sport’’ engages with the 'assembly' of the contemporary political mechanism itself through the performance of the identity politics of the 'inconspicuous unfits' and the complicity of the neoliberalism. Zeyi Li enjoys the idea to parody or simulate the way the whole system operates. The series of performative interviews where the naturalized players attended or were absent, the bureaucratic speeches, the empathy in video games, were all cut into different nodes of the whole political 'assembly' in an analytical manner. ‘Characters’ transform into different signal nodes of the entire cybernetic assembly just to make sure the LED bar above them beams at the right time. Whatever the result, the system revolves around the deep void, cyclically.In Zeyi Li’s image practice, Stengers’ ambition of cosmopolitics over the cunning universal freedom seems to be missing under the same insight. But with the pettiness of the 'unfits', any sort technology of the self ends up with the loss of the ultimate concern in political theology - the gates of Eden are closed, the roar of the political machine would not goes beyond its shell. The glory of the angelic gospel never has an echo in the present world.李泽易,现居北京,2017年毕业于芝加哥艺术学院(SAIC),获硕士学位。他近期的创作主要关注权力形而上学以及他者在主体叙事中的失语,通过录像、装置、绘画、照片等多重媒介构置场域,以此作为强度的设置点,顺应感官的放大,展现个体无法跨越和弥补的系统之荒诞性,并进一步探讨创造人类新生活的可能。李曾作为驻地艺术家参加过布鲁克林艺术中心和佛蒙特艺术中心的艺术驻留项目,作品曾在北京 69 Art Campus, 布鲁克林艺术中心、芝加哥罗曼苏三画廊、芝加哥舒适车展画廊等地展出,影像作品曾入围圣地亚哥先锋电影节、棕榈泉动画电影节、雅典独立动画电影节等。Zeyi LI lives in Beijing. He received his MFA from School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2017. His recent practices focus on the metaphysics of power and the dislocation of the ‘other’ in the narrative of the subject. He constructs the fields of intensities through multiple media such as video, installation, painting, and photograph by which to the amplify the senses and to display the absurdity of the system that cannot be crossed and compensated by the individual, and to further explore the possibility of creating a new life for human beings.Li participated in the artist residency programs in the Brooklyn Arts Center and the Vermont Art Center. His work has been exhibited at the Brooklyn Art Center, the Roman Susan Gallery , the Comfort Station Gallery in Chicago, and presented in San Diego Underground Film Festival, the Palm Springs Animation Film Festival, and the Athens Animfest etc.张煜航,写作者,策展人。目前关注理论虚构与幻想形而上学。Yuhang Zhang is a writer and curator based in Guangzhou. His current research interests are theory-fiction and pataphysics .C5CNM是一个地处北京798艺术区的实验性艺术空间(2018年秋天完成设计,2019年春天施工,2019年4月对公众开放)。长宽4.75 x 5.25米,挑高 3.5米,它小而独特的空间比例适合艺术家将展览整体视作一件作品去构想。C5CNM的空间本身是艺术家金宁宁的作品,他的空间构想性质类似游戏场抑或舞台,同时具备强烈的个人属性与真诚的开放性。更迭的活动与空间相加形成意料之外的全新感受,从而视觉体验被给予声学的特征。空间从2019年春天开放以来,已呈现多个当代艺术展览和实验音乐演出的项目,并以“画廊airbnb”的方式与非营利机构及艺术家个体合作。我们希望对开放性的追求不止步于视觉艺术领域。C5CNM是一个可以7天24小时向公众开放的空间,来访者通过扫码发送请求索取当天的电子锁密码,获得随时进入展厅与作品相处权限。C5CNM is an experimental space located in 798 Art District in Beijing. It measures 4.75 by 5.25 meters and 3.5 meters in ceiling height. Its modest though beautiful proportions invite artists to conceive an exhibition as one singular art work. The spatial design by artist Jin Ningning is a multifaceted and transformational artwork that mixes with the different occurrences that take place within, giving visual experience also an “acoustic” complexity.Since its opening in Spring 2019 C5CNM has transitioned between exhibition space, live performance venue, and “air b-n-b gallery” for non-profits, and it is open to many more interpretations (functions). We hope this quest for unlimited freedom will attract creative individuals or collaboratives from beyond the field of visual art to produce works. We can not anticipate the forms this may take, but only look forward.C5CNM is free and open to the public 24/7.
