BEIJING BIENNIAL"SYMBIOSIS"NATIONAL BASE FOR INTERNATIONAL CULTURAL TRADE(BEIJING)
2022首届北京艺术双年展以“共生”为主题,旨在思考人类文明与自然生态如何共存、数字科技与创意设计如何融合发展。希望在全国文化中心——北京,呈现具有典型意义的艺术话题和样本,丰富“共生”这一主题在空间和时间两个维度的涵义:一是空间“共生”,展示北京地区多元艺术生态共时性发展的繁荣面貌;二是时间“共生”,诠释北京艺术生态从过去、现在到未来的历时性发展和展望。
2022 Beijing Biennial, themed “Symbiosis”, aims to reflect on how human civilization and natural ecology should coexist, and how digital technology and creative design can intermix and develop. The Biennial hopes to present typical art topics and samples in Beijing, the national cultural center, and enrich the connotation of “Symbiosis” in the dimensions of space and time: “Symbiosis” of space showing the prosperity of the synchronic development of diversified art ecology in Beijing, and “Symbiosis” of time interpreting the diachronic development and prospect of Beijing’s art ecology from the past, the present to the future.

北京艺术双年展展览开幕现场 The view of Beijing Biennial作为2022首届北京艺术双年展的主展览单元之一,由朱朱策划的“无尽的交谈”邀请了超过80位艺术家,在国家对外文化贸易基地(北京)近4000平方米的展厅里,通过“灵光之思”、“栖于息壤”、“ 多维透视”三个单元,呈现当代艺术与历史记忆、生态环境和自然科学等多个领域的对话关系,全面展示当代艺术如何“为人类社会开启更好的、甚至全新的相处模式带来启示”。其中,“栖于息壤”单元展出了来自户尔空间的艺术家范尼·吉奎尔的影像作品《与你在一起无边无际》,以及陈丹笛子的双频影像作品《罗曼猎手》。As one of the main exhibition units of 2022 Beijing Biennial, the "The Infinite Conference" planned by Zhu Zhu invited more than 80 artists to present contemporary art and historical memories through three units, namely, "Presence of Aura", "Creating the Every Living Soil", and "Multi dimensional Perspective", in the exhibition hall of nearly 4000 square meters in the National Base For International Culture Trade (Beijing).The dialogue between ecological environment, natural science and other fields comprehensively demonstrates how contemporary art can "enlighten human society by opening a better, even new, way of getting along". Among them, the "Inhabiting the Ever Living Soil" unit exhibited the video “L'immensit é avec vous”by Fanny Gicquel, and the Double-channel video “The Romantic Hunter” by Chen Dandizi, two artists from Hua International.

In “L 'immensité avec vous”, Fanny Gicquel wanted torespond to the ocean setting of Brest by taking inspiration from the work ofpoetry Ode Maritime (1915) by Fernando Pessoa, a Portuguese political writer ofthe early twentieth century. She has taken from this prose poetry a series ofverses imagining the notions of departure and movement, such as ‟I want to gowith you, wherever you have been”. But the messages are coded using a techniquethat is particularly familiar to sailors: the semaphore alphabet, a means ofcommunication using flags held at arm’s length to cipher the Roman alphabet. Thepoetry extracts become ‘semaphore verses’ taking the form of sculptures, a filmand performances given at predetermined times. Fanny Gicquel has been longinterested in the ides around “personal space” and social distancing in thespace between us, which now seems ever present.

Lives and works in Rennes, France.Fanny Gicquel’s works move between installation, sculpture and performance and develop spaces that accommodate different elements which presuppose a scenario of activation. The sculptures act as extensions of the body and are activated through gestures that question the correlation of the body/object and the self and the other. In this way, the work explores the relationship between the animate and the inanimate, space and time during and after the actions. Gicquel’s work has recently been featured in Unworlding, a new special section of Frieze curated by Cédric Fauq that featured a selection of international artists whose practices are centered around the idea of the undoing of the world as we know it through their exploration of ideas related to apocalypse and regeneration, undoing and reconstruction. Gicquel’s work was exhibited in a solo exhibition at Passerelle Centre d’art contemporain, Brest, as well as exhibitions at The left right place, Reims; Loto, Bruxelles; and Frac Franche-Comté, among others. She had her first solo exhibition at a gallery with Hua International in February 2021. She completed her solo exhibition in Hua International's Beijing space in 2022.

在影像《罗曼猎手》中,陈丹笛子截取并剪辑网络上的动物纪录片片段,展现的场景是生活于温带地区的动物在追逐捕捉处于热带地区的动物。带着“热带为何更容易产生殖民地而不是强大的国家”的疑问,艺术家转而试图重新审视两个区域的自然生物状态,这也延续了她对于自然与非自然二者关系的思考。《罗曼猎手》去掉了纪录片素材的原有逻辑,只留下与地理相关的因素;通过将自然界原本的秩序变为本不存在的⽆序,艺术家提供了另一种角度去认识“人力(权力)”的改造行为,同时也让我们得以注视那个后殖民的幽灵依旧在黑暗中浮现。
The video “The Romantic Hunter” is taken and edited from animal documentary clips on the Internet, showing animals living in temperate regions chasing animals intropical areas. With the question of "Why is it easier for the tropics to be colonies rather than powerful countries", the artist turned to re-examine the natural biological state of the two regions, which also continued her thinking about the relationship between nature and unnaturalness. “The Romantic Hunter” removes the original logic of the documentary material, leaving only factors related togeography; by changing the original order of the natural world into an on-existent order, the artist provides another perspective to understand "human (power)” transformation, but also allows us to gaze the post-colonial ghost still emerging in the dark.

Born 1990 in Hezhou, China. Lives and works in Zhejiang province, China.Chen Dandizi's works are characterized by a symbiosis of media: Her use of video, installation, photography, and literature form integral parts required to illuminate intimate, short-lived moments in time, and human emotion. Her works explore the perception and experience of encounters with reoccurring phenomena of the natural and artificial world. Her art explores central themes such as self-knowledge and observation of her lived environment. Revealing the fleeting nature of hidden connections between a unique moment and emotion is at the heart of her creative process.Chen Dandizi graduated from the oil painting department of Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts in 2015. Her works have been included in a recent solo exhibition at Hua International, Beijing, China; her group exhibitions were held in Beiqiu Museum of Contemporary Art, MOCA Yinchuan, K60 Berlin, New Century Art Foundation, Times Art Center Berlin, Ullens Center for Contemporary Art, OCAT Shenzhen, Para Site, West Bund Art & Design, Beijing Contemporary Art Expo, Shenzhen Bi-city Biennale of Urbanism/ Architecture, Frick Fine Arts Building University of Pittsburgh, Mexico National Culture Digital Center, Lianzhou Foto Festival 2019. She was the finalist of ART SANYA & HUAYU Youth Award in 2020 and of “Incredible Female Artist award” by NET-A-PORTER in 2021.

About Hua International
户尔空间(Hua International)是一家位于柏林与北京两地的当代艺术画廊,展览、出版和公共项目致力于跨学科及行为表演的艺术实践。画廊专注于发展与艺术家长期动态的合作关系,以其地理上的两地性为依托,扩展艺术家及其作品在迥异文化背景下的展览和接受。
以 XC.Hua 为名,经历了两年实验艺术策展项目运营积累后,花笑婵于2020年8月正式更名成立了户尔空间(Hua International),并在北京798艺术区、柏林历史悠久的当代艺术中心之一麦卡托庭院分别设立空间。在常驻两地空间之外,户尔空间也在国际知名的艺术博览会展示其艺术家作品。
Hua International is a contemporary art gallery located in Berlin and Beijing whose exhibitions, publications, and public programming supports cross-disciplinary and performative artistic practices. The gallery focuses on developing long-term relationships with its represented artists and leverages its geographic bilocation as a means to critically expand how their work can be presented and received in radically diverse cultural contexts.
After two years curating the experimental art and performance project XC.Hua, Xioachan Hua founded Hua International in August 2020 and inaugurated the new gallery with spaces in Berlin’s historic Mercator Höfe and Beijing’s acclaimed 798 Arts District.
