Dance for the Lantern Festival

Dance for the lantern festival with talented dancers is a public benefit event held by Shanghai International Dance Center Theater every year during the lantern festival. This performance faces to the common dancers and aims to give a chance to these dancers with dreams on a professional stage. There are no limits of age, sex or regions for this event. We are going to select dozen teams from all candidates and provide the audiences a wonderful performance.

In the new year of 2023, Shanghai International Dance Center joins forces with NGO group “One School” to support education with dance. The joint action is a bridge that connects big city and rural areas, which will listen to the yearnings for the mountains and build up hope and dreams in an underdeveloped environment. 

“One School” is a grassroot charity group dedicated in support education. Established in 2008, it has been carrying out one-one sponsor projects with the philosophy of “Education is the best charity and freedom is the best public benefit” for 14 years. The group treated donation as a profession and deployed their expertise in helping good Samaritans and finding social support for rural families. So far, they have helped more than 9000 students from 33 schools across Sichuan, Yunnan and Ningxia. Their consistent efforts over past decade have received great support and much recognition.

Since 2018, Shanghai International Dance Center has been hosting “Dance for the Lantern Festival” for five consecutive years. Every year we invite dance lovers to take the professional stage of the center, to dance and shine.

Online audition

The recruitment of the event started in October 2022 and attracted many dance lovers and groups. More than 10 performances with different styles and forms are selected after video and online screening. They will bring warmth to this festival through their dance movements.

As many grassroot dance groups will bring their best performance on this special festival, you’ll have the chance to see a feast of various dance styles from ancient times to modern days, from Chin and abroad: the elegant ballet, the popular ethnic dance, the dynamic street dance, the vibrant swing dance, the trendy jazz, the cute children dance, the unique contemporary dance… all in one show to celebrate the Lantern Festival.
