红门画廊荣幸的宣布举办全新展览《萌芽：当代艺术收藏缘起》，展品来自我的早期中国当代艺术收藏。

现场将展出12位艺术家从1989年到1999年期间的作品。通过绘画、版画、综合材料和装置，反映青年艺术家们在激情昂扬的90年代，对崭新未来的探索、创作、讨论和呈现。

这是画廊界的萌芽时代——1991年，红门画廊及其他一些小型画廊开门迎客，其中知名度最高的就在日坛公园附近。对于许多艺术家来说，这是他们第一次在商业画廊空间展出，对于新的“画廊人”来说，这是一条从零开始的学习曲线！

从我个人的角度来看，这个展览把我带回了新兴艺术界的早期：许多展览在京城一带闲置的寺庙和明代古建筑中举办；我们曾经去拜访偏安于一个小宿舍或者租住在圆明园附近农民房里的艺术家工作室；我们也曾受邀到澳大利亚文化参赞的家中参加高端的“没有沙发的洋沙龙”。

此次展览中的许多艺术家都与红门画廊有着长期的合作关系——有些合作甚至开始于1991年7月红门画廊在东便门角楼举办的首次展览。他们中的大多数人，是中国艺术界和教育界中的重要先驱，也在过去的三十年中成就了辉煌的职业生涯。

Red Gate is happy to announce its new exhibition from my collection – Those Formative Years.

12 artists will be presenting work from 1989 to 1999. Painting, printmaking, mixed media and installations will reflect on the exciting times of the 90s when young artists were exploring a new future creating, discussing and exhibiting.

It was a formative time for the gallery scene as well - Red Gate opened in 1991 along with a number of other smaller galleries, most notably around Ritan Park. For many artists, it was the first time for them to exhibit in a commercial gallery space, and for the new ‘gallerists’, it was a learning curve from the ground up!

For me, this exhibition takes us back to the early days of the nascent art scene: many exhibitions were held in unused temples and Ming Dynasty structures around Beijing; we visited artists’ studios in small apartments, or farm houses in the Old Summer Palace; we were invited to the more up-market Salons Without Sofas in the home of the Australian cultural counsellor.

Many of the artists in the show have had a long association with Red Gate – some even from our very first exhibition held in the Dongbianmen Tower in July 1991. Most have played important early roles in China’s art scene and education, and many have built stellar careers over the last three decades.

1999年北京媒体报道艺术家盛奇在艾滋病日发起的活动

盛奇作为中国第一个行为艺术小组“观念21”的主要成员，曾于1986-88年期间，在北京大学、长城等地点实施行为艺术，后被载入多部记录和研究中国当代艺术史的学术著作。

八十年代末，盛奇将自己左手小指割掉，前往欧洲创作生活。1998年，盛奇于伦敦圣马丁艺术学院获得硕士学位，并重回北京进行艺术创作。

1999年，盛奇回到中国，创作了更多讨论社会问题、聚焦集体记忆与个人经历关联性的绘画、摄影及行为艺术，如《我的左手》系列摄影，《致敬艺术家》、《黑红历史》等系列绘画。其关注艾滋病话题的行为艺术《握手》，曾受邀参加2000年墨尔本边缘艺术节。

疫情期间，盛奇发起“中国当代艺术家自述编”项目，采用口述历史、视频记录的方式采访数位中国当代艺术家，包括：肖鲁、奚建军、蔡元、关伟、郑学武、刘勃麟、郭桢、高氏兄弟、陈宇飞、段英梅、王智远等，受访艺术家名单正在逐步增加。
