从 Dirty Beaches、Last Lizard、Love Theme 到 Alex Zhang Hungtai，张洪泰的音乐就如同他不同时期的艺名一样持续蜕变。

许多人知道张洪泰，是通过他的单人计划 Dirty Beaches。被 Pitchfork 称为“肮脏的、不和谐的情歌，把 Suicide 式令人不安的噪音与 Beach Boys 式的冲浪流行摇滚搅拌在一起”——阴暗、忧郁，时不时伴随质感粗粝的人声...... Dirty Beaches 的音乐以其独特的 lofi 美学俘获了一众乐迷，也引起了许多媒体的关注，《纽约时报》、The Quietus 和 NPR Music 等都对他进行了长篇采访和报道。

以 Dirty Beaches 名义发行了六张专辑和数张单曲后，张洪泰选择在 2014 年终止这个人气与日俱增的计划。他将重心转移至作曲家这一新身份上，并专注于对即兴音乐与自由爵士的探索。在新作品中，他大量使用萨克斯、合成器和打击乐，进一步潜入音乐的朦胧境地。

近年来，张洪泰为许多电影创作配乐，如 2017 年的《谁是朱亚瑟？》，2018 年的《秋子家的八月》，2022 年的短片《巢》，和同年的《创造之地》；他也作为演员出演一些独立电影。

在个人项目之外，张洪泰还与 David Maranha 和 Gabriel Ferrandini 组建了一个自由爵士/实验三重奏。2020年，他与落日飞车乐队的国国合作了前卫爵士风格的专辑《龙港》，与 Pavel Milyakov 合作了专辑 STYX 。他参与翻玩侯孝贤执导电影《千禧曼波》之主题曲的合辑《单纯的人》也在同年推出。

Alex Zhang Hungtai was more known by his public persona, Dirty Beaches, whose music is characterized by dark, gloomy, lofi aesthetics, sometimes accompanied by Zhang's fierce vocals, such as his fourth full length album Badlands.

Zhang released several EPs and six albums under Dirty Beaches. After retiring this alias in 2014, Zhang has been focusing on explorations of improvised music, free jazz, and his new role as a composer. His newer compositions predominantly work with saxophone, synthesizers, and percussion, furthering his research on ritualistic music of liminality.

Zhang currently works as a composer for film soundtracks, along with acting in independent films. Notable works include music for Who Is Arthur Chu? (2017), August at Akiko's (2018), Nest (2022) and Godland (2022).

In addition to his solo work, Zhang is also a member of a free jazz/experimental trio with David Maranha and Gabriel Ferrandini. In 2020, Zhang collaborated on two full length instrumental albums, LONGONE with Tseng Kuo-Hung of Sunset Rollercoaster and STYX with Pavel Milyakov. Zhang also contributed to the album A Pure Person, released also in 2020 covering the theme music of Hou Hsiao-hsien's Millennium Mambo (2001).
