作品介绍

Root for Thought 是一个沉浸式交互式混合媒体装置，探索菌丝体的“地下”通信系统！织物与科技的结合，彰显自然的智慧与共存之美。

该项目受菌根系统的启发，与 Fablab O Shanghai 和同济大学D&I生态与文化创新实验室合作开发。该混合媒体装置邀请观众加入菌丝体的“地下”通信系统，作品结合了开源硬件编程和亲生物设计，以重现植物之间营养物质交换的互惠真菌网络。

作为对大自然智慧的颂歌，这个装置吸引观众拥抱互联世界的奇迹，并以后人类中心论的视角反思菌丝错综复杂的线索中所蕴含的深刻智慧。

Root for Thought is animmersive and interactive mixed-media installationthat explores mycelium's "underground" communication system! Fabric meets technology, illuminating nature's wisdom and the beauty of coexistence.

Inspired by mychorrizal system, the project was developed in collaboration withFablab O Shanghai andEcology and Cultures Innovation Lab, D&I, Tongji University. The mixed-media installation invites the audience to join mycelium's "underground" communication system combining physical computation and biophilic design to replicates the reciprocal fungal web of nutrients trading between plants.

As an ode to nature's intelligence, this installation beckons viewers to embrace the wonders of the interconnected world and reflect on the profound wisdom held within the intricate threads of mycelial communication in a post-anthropocentric view.

创意过程

这件作品最初的灵感来自于 Studio5：面向设计师的电子电路与编程课程，自那以后一直在不断发展。

Studio 5是由生态与文化创新实验室与Fablab O上海联合举办的跨学科研究型课程。为期9周的强化课程通过授予关于复杂电子系统的知识和技能，促进了学生们从设计师到创客的身份转变。

Studio5 孵化的项目探索自然世界的客观规律，并试图以互动关系将其编码和表达。

The piece originally got inspiration and has been evolving since Studio5: Electronic Circuits & Programming for Designers.

Studio 5 is an interdisciplinary research-based curriculum jointly conducted by Ecology and Cultures Innovation Lab and Fablab O Shanghai. The intensive 9-week course catalyzes a change of identity from designers into makers paired with knowledge and skills to the complex electronic systems.

Studio5 incubates projects that explore the objective laws of the natural world and attempt to codify and express it in an interactive relationship.

作者介绍

宋玥（生于1999年）是一位跨学科体验设计师和艺术家，居住在伦敦和上海。她通过研究生命形式与其所处背景中的事物之间相互交织的关系来引导她的实践。

毕业于同济大学，工业/产品设计的背景使她能够了解观众如何在不限于时间/空间/情感/文化的维度上感知氛围，以及他们如何批判性地与所处的环境互动。她的研究和设计方法解码了各种系统来源的底层逻辑，并通过为现有情况提供替代观点来挑战关于对象及互动方式的传统看法。

她的作品曾在奥地利林茨电子艺术节，IRCAM-蓬皮杜中心，英国伦敦维多利亚和阿尔伯特博物馆以及中国上海环同济设计周展出。

Yue Song (b.1999) is an interdisciplinary experience designer and artist based in London and Shanghai. Yue navigates her practice through research into the intertwined correlations between life forms and things in their situated background.

Graduated from Tongji University, her previous background in product design has facilitated her view on how audiences perceive ambience in dimensions not limited to time/space/emotion/culture, and how they can critically engage with the environment. The approach for her research and design decodes the underlying logic of various sources of systems and challenges the conventional perceptions on subjects and interactions by providing alternative viewpoints to existing situations.

Her work has been showcased at Ars Electronica, Linz, Austria; IRCAM-Centre Pompidou, Paris, France; Victoria and Albert Museum, London, UK and Pan-Tongji Design Week, Shanghai, China.

生态与文化创新实验室聚焦有关自然和生态的设计和研究问题。通过在可持续发展和设计领域的多年研究，我们认为在设计领域必须进行一场更严格的对话，将设计范围从以人为本扩展到以生命为本。我们挑战创意实践，以激发出不与环境隔阂而探索各种生命的新社会和新文化。

Ecology and Cultures Innovation Lab is a research and design lab working on nature and ecology-related issues. After many years of research in design and sustainability, we felt that a more strict conversation has to happen in the design field, a conversation to extend the scope of design from human-centred to life-centred activities. We challenge our creative practice to stimulate and inspire new forms of society and social cultures that do not create boundaries with the environment but experiment across all domains of life.
