YUZxQM展览论坛「共话艺术与设计」将于西岸艺博会论坛单元特别呈现
2023年11月8日，余德耀美术馆全新展览《浇灌沙漠｜卡塔尔当代艺术》（Watering the Desert | Contemporary Art from Qatar）将正式对公众开放。开幕周，美术馆特别邀请卡塔尔博物馆群设计建造部主管谢赫·阿勒贾齐·阿勒萨尼（Sheikha Al Jazi Al Thani）、设计师阿卜杜勒拉赫曼·阿勒穆夫塔（Abdulrahman Al Muftah）、多学科设计师与教育工作者哈拉·阿扎维德（Hala Alzawaydeh）和VCUarts Qatar平面设计系主任阿斯特丽德·肯辛格（Astrid Kensinger），结合其在各自领域的艺术与设计实践深入开展跨学科交流：共话艺术与设计。
This talk, "Design in the age of art" is part of the Watering the Desert I Contemporary Art from Qatar exhibition that is held in the Yuz Museum between 8 November 2023-3 March 2024. It highlights a generation of artists that have taught and studied at Virginia Commonwealth University Qatar (VCUarts Qatar). This is a discussion about how the overlap between teaching, studying, and practicing design has informed their artistic journeys, as well as an exploration of the ecosystem of artists that has developed through VCUarts Qatar.
11月9日，本次论坛将亮相西岸艺术与设计博览会论坛单元的现场，以期将当代艺术议题引入更开放多元的场域进行探讨。
此次余德耀美术馆与卡塔尔博物馆群的国际合作得益于多个卡塔尔创意行业机构的汇聚共力，其中，弗吉尼亚联邦大学艺术学院卡塔尔分校（Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts in Qatar，简称VCUarts Qatar）为此合作贡献重要力量，展览中的部分作品来自该校创意研究实验室的艺术家。因此，我们特邀曾在VCUarts Qatar学习和任教的参展艺术家们，从设计的视角切入，探讨教学、学习和设计实践如何塑造他们的艺术之路。此次论坛也是一次对VCUarts Qatar培育的艺术家生态系统的探索，以考察是否存在设计与艺术趋向融合的现象。
卡塔尔的经济转型引发了国家社会结构的迅速变革，艺术家纷纷对此做出回应，在创作中开辟出一条反映社会变迁、探索家园归属的独特路径。回望卡塔尔传统与风俗，阿卜杜勒拉赫曼·阿勒穆夫塔专注于本土技艺与材料探索，其参展作品《复诵》（Eaadah）呈现了一系列符号物件，如mabkhara(传统香炉)、riha(传统研磨器)等，参照卡塔尔的传统智慧以及代代传承的学识，展现了正在消没的阿拉伯文化遗存。

阿斯特丽德·肯辛格参与创作的作品《测绘迁徙记忆》（Mapping Migration Memories）则基于已有的档案、回忆、照片、影片和口述史，呈现过去卡塔尔游牧民族在沙漠和近海地带之间的季节性迁徙。这项持续多年的研究项目强调了在快速发展的社会中极易失传的无形习俗和口述传统的重要性，亦在探索社区文化遗产的当代艺术表达途径。

以沙为记录媒介，哈拉·阿扎维德参与创作的书写装置《未来记忆》（Future Memories）引用大量卡塔尔的统计数据，如出生率和死亡率，用这些数字来创造不同的语句，预示了未来卡塔尔社会互动方式的可能性，反映了对复杂的社会动态的解读诠释。
从设计、材料、摄影到实验性技术的探索，艺术家们从卡塔尔丰富的文化遗产中汲取灵感，将地区性的视觉代码编织成他们的创作，探讨了卡塔尔以及当今世界所面临的深刻的人文议题，促进人们在不断变化的世界中对家园和归属感的认知与思考。
Abdulrahman Al Muftah｜设计师
作为一名设计师，Abdulrahman的灵感来自艺术、文化和自然。他的作品反映了人类情感与设计之间更深层次的连接，并将他的设计与卡塔尔文化联系在一起。在其设计过程中，注重材料、细节与精确测量，将永恒的叙事与微妙的美学相结合。
As a designer, Abdulrahman Al Muftah is inspired by art, culture and nature. His work reflects on a deeper connection between human emotions and design as well as linking his designs with Qatari Culture. During his design process, Abdulrahman focuses on materials, details, and precise measurements, combining timeless narratives with subtle aesthetics.
Hala Alzawaydeh｜多学科设计师与教育工作者
Hala是一位多学科设计师，她的创作融合室内设计、教育、建造和技术，擅长运用设计思维和混合能力来创造转变。目前她是VCUarts Qatar数字化建造与木工坊负责人。
Hala Amer is a multidisciplinary designer with a hybrid profile merging interior design, education, fabrication, and technology. Interested in using design thinking and the hybrid competencies to create shifts to set up the space for emergence to occur. Amer is currenly Digital Fabrication & Woodshop Coordinator at Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts (VCUarts Qatar).
Astrid Kensinger｜VCUarts Qatar平面设计系主任
Astrid是VCUarts Qatar平面设计系主任。她将信息可视化、地图编制表现、表演艺术与平面设计交织在一起，以视觉方式阐述特定地点的叙事、非物质遗产、当代议题及地图艺术。
Astrid Kensinger is the chair of Graphic Design at VCUarts Qatar. Astrid interweaves information visualization, cartographic performance and performance art with graphic design to visually articulate site-specific narratives, intangible heritage, contemporary issues and the map as art.
Sheikha Al Jazi Al Thani｜卡塔尔博物馆群设计建造部主管
Sheikha出生并成长于卡塔尔多哈，她曾在VCUarts Qatar学习室内设计。她在大学期间就获得了许多荣誉并出版刊物。2018年毕业后，她作为ASH Designs的联合创始人，目前担任卡塔尔博物馆群设计与建设部主管。Sheikha热衷于通过创意设计来表现其作用与影响力，并参与了解决住房条件和支持当地艺术家的项目，在她的作品中强调功能性和富有意义的设计。
Born and raised in Doha, Qatar, Al Jazi Al-Thani, studied Interior Design at VCUarts Qatar. Her work gained recognition during her university years, earning her accolades and publications. She co-founded ASH Designs after graduating in 2018 and currently serves as the Head of Design and Build at Qatar Museums. Al-Thani is passionate about using design to create a positive impact and has been involved in projects that address living conditions and support local artists, emphasizing functionality and meaningful design in her work.
