The Design Artificial Intelligence Laboratory of Tongji University studies how to empower arts and craftsmen preservation through AI technology. In the past three years, the lab has established the Jinshan farmer’s painting data set and intelligent generation model to explore how intelligent technology enables new opportunities of the inheritance and development of traditional arts and crafts. By encourage audience to get hands-on participation, this project aim to archiving new contemporary ways of cultural preservation. By translating the creation process and final products of traditional arts and crafts into digital assets- digitizing Jinshan farmer’s painting through the lens of drawing elements, themes, and layout in this case- it provides a new dimension for academic research on arts and crafts.

Culture-inspired Multi-modal Color Palette Generation and Colorization: A Chinese Youth Subculture Case

The Design Artificial Intelligence Laboratory of Tongji University studies how to use data set construction and intelligent generation technology to transform the color design capabilities of designers and artists of Chinese youth subculture into an intelligent color assistance system for Chinese youth subculture, thereby lowering the design threshold and Improve design capabilities so that designers and non-designers without subculture knowledge can design using the subculture color spectrum.
