没顶画廊将于2024年新加坡国际艺术博览会呈现徐震®的个人项目，聚焦其最近十年来的跨媒介实践。现场将展出来自艺术家七个标志性系列的作品，以丰富的隐喻性和层层指涉，折射出世界迈向后全球化时代的进程中，当代生活经验的困顿与惊异。

延续“徐震专卖店”的概念，各系列作品或以大型原作、或以小型限量品的形式呈现。这一姿态正呼应着“徐震®”同时作为品牌、艺术家、展览之名的多重涵义，是徐震试探艺术与商业、唯一与复制、价格与价值之间可疑界限的又一次尝试，其回响将远远超出本次展览之限。

MadeIn Gallery is pleased to present “XU ZHEN®”, a survey of the artist’s multi-media practice during the past decade. In this richly metaphorical and densely referenced solo project, works from seven of XU ZHEN®’s signature series constitute a microcosm of the predicaments as well as excitements of contemporary life as set in the ongoing universal journey from globalization to post-globalization.

Borrowing the concept of “Xu Zhen Store”, some of the seven series are represented with the original work, while others with limited-edition, smaller-scale works. Echoing the branding of “XU ZHEN®” as simultaneously the name of a label, an artist, and an exhibition, this gesture is yet another of Xu Zhen’s probes into the suspicious boundary between art and commerce, uniqueness and duplication, price and value, with reverberations far beyond the limits of this exhibition.

《⽓吞⼭河》属于徐震®的⻓期创作系列“蔓延”，该系列不断搜集和挑选来⾃世界各地的漫画素材，将其以布艺拼贴、装置、限量品等形式加以组合。艺术家从意识形态丰富的政治漫画中提取素材，从⽽创造出富有街头波普意味、注重⼤众⽂化美学的艺术性构图。

Full of Daring belongs to XU ZHEN®’s series of collage "Spread", consisting of a combination of cultural imagery gleaned from the Internet. While traditional tapestries narrate epic scenes, this series features representations of historical events, portraits of political figures, mythological and religious scenes selected from cartoon and comics with ideological connotations, presenting a montage of consciousness through collage.

“永⽣”是徐震最具代表性的作品系列之⼀。系列的基本素材来⾃古代雕塑，通过东⻄经典⽂化碰撞的格局将全球⽂明置于更为宽阔的视野，也因此呈现出东⽅传统与⻄⽅近代⽂化对当下⽣活的历史性影响。作品在东⽅与⻄⽅、现代与古代、抽象与具象之间，利⽤形式与美学的拉锯缔造出经典的永恒瞬间。

"Eternity" is a series of sculptural installations that fuses together and immortalizes classics of art history and great civilizations. Statues of Greek gods or Chinese divinities and Modern Art sculptures are replicated, taking on the form of visual hybrids. The use of forms and aesthetics between the East and the West, ancient and modern, figurative and abstract create a timeless classic moment.

“进化”系列由“永生”发展而来，但跳脱经典文化的范围，将创作的触角扩散到亚文化与文化边缘地带的原始艺术。远古时代的文明与现代社会所保有的原始性交错，呈现出超越时间桎梏的美学面貌。在令人欣喜的感官体验背后，徐震呈现了信息技术迭代引发的观看与认知方式的复杂质变。

In the same vein as the “Eternity” series, the "Evolution" series is rooted in cultural elements spanning time and space and focuses on cultural differences within globalisation. It ventures beyond the scope of Classic culture into that of subcultures and primitive art. Behind the gratifying sensory experience, the artist presents the cognitive changes brought about by the development of the Internet.

作品使用“断臂维纳斯”的经典形象，经过镂空处理，人们仍可凭借自身的文化经验清晰辨识形象的来源，雕塑系列“经验”得名于此。作品将数字媒体与人文历史中的文化基因进行结合，创造出全新的审美与媒介表现的视角。

The sculpture series "Experience" fuses digital media and cultural genes to create a new perspective on aesthetics and on media representation, stimulating viewers’ visual memory through defamiliarized cultural experiences.

“新”雕塑以明代德化窑祥云观音为原型，覆以渐变七彩形象。观音是泛化了的慈悲符号和宗教现成品。徐震将数字信息化的彩色渐变效果和观音形象奇异结合，提供了一种新的信仰波普和观看经验。

The sculpture "New" is modelled after an original Ming dynasty Dehua porcelain Guanyin statue. Guanyin is the most venerated and ubiquitous divinity in China. Without being definitely male or female, it is a generalized symbol of compassion and acts here as a religious readymade. The artist’s unique combination of digitally generated color shading and the sacred icon proposes a new spiritual Pop art and experience of viewing across different cultures.

“天下”系列油画作品将油画颜料置于奶油裱花袋中，依循奶油蛋糕裱装程序制作——“天下”系列油画作品既保有了真实奶油的滑腻甜美，⼜因为视觉的密集、尺⼨的夸张⽽呈现出虚假迷幻的景观。奶油式的天下，或⽈天下式的奶油，以乐观主义的态度忠实名状了⼀种愉悦、疯狂且感官主义的现实。

With oil paint filled in the cream piping bag and following the cream cake mounting procedure, the "Under Heaven" series has not only retained the creamy and sweetness of real cream, but its dense visual appeal and exaggerated dimension also present an illusion. The cream under heaven, or a creamy world, faithfully names an exciting, maddening and sensual reality with optimism.

“⾦属的语⾔”系列收集公共漫画中的对话与⽂字，并以⾦属链条为材料进⾏表现；画⾯中的⽂字被抽离出原本的语境，搭配各式⾦属对话框，以街头涂鸦般的轻松姿态，共同构成了⼀幅幅21世纪的精神肖像。

In "Metal Language", XU ZHEN® collects conversations and texts from public and political cartoons and reproduces them in their original fonts using metal chains on a mirroring surface. The “bling” of the chains along with the many exclamation marks evoke the chaos of a graffiti wall, where the individual statements blend into one bigger picture.

Artist, Curator, MadeIn Company Founder. Xu Zhen was born in 1977 and lives and works in Shanghai. Xu Zhen has been considered as an iconic figure in Chinese contemporary art. In 2004, Xu won the prize for ‘Best Artist’ at the China Contemporary Art Award. His practice covers various media such as installations, video, painting and performance, etc.

Xu Zhen has exhibited internationally, at museums and biennales, such as, Venice Biennale (2001, 2005), The Museum of Modern Art (New York, 2004), Mori Art Museum (Tokyo, 2005), MoMA PS1 (New York, 2006), Tate Liverpool (2007), Hayward Gallery (London, 2012), Lyon Biennial (2013), Armory Show (New York, 2014), Long Museum (Shanghai 2015), Al Riwaq Art Center (Qatar, 2016), Sydney Biennial (2016), Guggenheim Museum (New York, 2017), Sharjah Biennial (2019), The Museum of Contemporary Art (Los Angeles, 2019), National Gallery of Australia (Canberra, 2020) among others.

Aside from being an artist, Xu Zhen is also a curator. He co-curated together with other artists major exhi- bitions in Shanghai and was one of the initiators of Art-Ba-Ba (www.art-ba-ba.com), a leading online forum for discussion and critique of contemporary art in Shanghai, in 2006. In 2009, Xu Zhen established ‘MadeIn Company’, a contemporary art creation corporate, focused on the production of creativity, and devoted to the research of contemporary culture’s infinite possibilities. In 2013, MadeIn Company launched XU ZHEN® which is committed to art creation and cutting-edge culture development. In 2014, MadeIn Company established MadeIn Gallery and in November 2016 launched the first “Xu Zhen Store” in Shanghai. In 2022, MadeIn Art Museum was opened to the public.
